In the woods, in the fields, and now on the island : once again, Chimaera Design came up with another very nice course, with plenty of elevation changes, beautiful plantings, nice ocean views and some undulating fairways and a few tricky and/or hidden greens.
This par 72 starts with the very tough left dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a nice view of the ocean from the tee box and two blind downhill shots, the latter above trees to reach the hidden green, with a wide lake behind and a city skyline as a backdrop.
After the par-3 2nd hole, with a lake on the left side, the downhill left dogleg par-5 3rd, with another blind tee shot facing the ocean, followed by a clear shot to the green, and the right dogleg par-4 4th hole, with trees on a small hilltop on the right, hiding the green, you will reach the scenic downhill left dogleg par-4 5th hole, with a nice house perched on a hilltop, on the right, and the ocean, on the left, with plenty of high rough and vegetation around.
The downhill par-3 6th hole has another gorgeous panoramic view with the ocean in front, with a nice tree on a small mound, hiding the green below and two huge rocks a little bit apart on the right side, whereas the straight par-5 7th is very long (more than 700 yards) and is downhill all the way to the ocean, with a peninsula tiered fairway, split twice by high rough across.
If the left dogleg par-4 8th hole (a little bit similar to the 6th) is nice too, it has a clear view of the flag instead, just like the straight par-4 9th, beautiful with its tiered fairway and its two uphill shots over wide bunkers, nice bushes and high rough to reach the green, with a big clubhouse behind.
The back 9 starts with the long (almost 690 yards) and superb left dogleg par-5 10th hole, downhill all the way to the green, with nice trees on the right and plenty of high rough all around, and is followed by three holes, more inland, with the right par-4 12th and 13th holes, looking quite similar with nice tree-lined fairways.
Two of my favorite holes are the par-3 14th, with a very steep uphill tee shot to reach the flag, and the downhill par-4 16th hole, with a very narrow fairway with hills on both sides and a very long, blind (and tough !) approach shot to the green, hidden by trees with the flag very close to the lake !
The dogleg par-4 17th hole has a heavily-slanted fairway, hard to reach on your tee shot, with plenty of high rough below on the right, and a nice panoramic view as you reach the green (with more high rough on the right next to the ocean), unlike the par-5 18th hole, with a very steep uphill approach shot to reach the green and the clubhouse behind…
As usual, this course is a pure delight to play and watch, and if Chimaera Design could make the panorama look more realistic, rather than just outlining buidings far away, it would be even more spectacular !

P.S. Asides from a tiny displaying bug, mostly visible on the 5th and 7th holes (where the ocean has a different color vertically), you might have to adjust the settings to play this course completely without any crash along the way...

Figured I go away from my normal routine of playing real courses, and I'd remember your Helm's deep course I played when I first got here. This one didn't disappoint me either, and I wish some of the fantasy courses where listed has real like course fantasy courses because some of them I've played aren't what I consider fantasy, but I'll still get to them all eventually, so it's all good.

Right off the bat on the 1st hole showed me for what kind of round I was in for, and I loved the down hill views. Plus the rock mountain of the left of 1st hole was a nice touch overlooking the lake. Haven't seen anything in my short TW career like the cool looking wood work in the bunker like that on the 6th hole & other holes, and I liked that look alot. The cart path on top on the rock mountain on the 15ht hole was nice too, and then I almost got my 1st ever hole-in-one playing Inter/TS on the 16th hole with the cool green action that made the ball feed back to the pin. So close I was........grrrrrrrrrr

Tuff course that is long off the tee, but the downhill shots make up some of that distance so this makes the yardage somewhat misleading , but I was playing breezy, very dry, heavy, and can imagine this course can rears it's muscles bigtime with some headwinds staring you down. Was at +3 coming to the 18th then hit in the nasty deep bunker on 18th to finish with double bogey, but still enjoyed my round very much with the cool views. I think the 7th hole was the one that you look out to nice peninsula, and that was on of my favorite holes. So far the few courses I've played of yours show very imaginative thinking, and just a example of this is the way you did the rock mountain like things, and they looked cool with the way you did them. Kind struggle with a little FPS drop on the 1st hole, but just turning down tree textures & grass to high instead of very high took care of all that, and the course played nice & smooth.
Plus it was nice to not be half way falling asleep playing my rd today........LOL

Thanks for your time while maiking this course

Hi Jimi,

I enjoyed your course and I can see that you put a lot effort into your courses and we receive the benefit!

Greens are bit unfair and some holes difficult to reach in regulation shots for a novice like me.

The course rating soothed my conscience and I scored 77!

Now to play Out in the Fields!

Cheers
Brian

I liked this one...at first lol! lovley looking course which defies its character. its a toughie! Greens are generally unfair, and a nightmare! Only big beef for me, was the 5th pin was a bit unplayable as any approach to it will run down the hill, it would be hard to hit your shot onto the green and end up down the hill below it. Also the 15th green is VERY unfair! you have to literally hit your shot dead about 18" from the hole anywhere else and its a dead duck, if it were slightly more flatter it would be okay.

Thanks guys. It was indeed a bit of a struggle. I had this map of an island that I sort of copied free-hand. I then did the elevations acoording to the altitude lines on the map. This left me with an island with two hills and sort of a land bridge between them. Carving 18 holes into it turned out te be quite hard. I had to do a lot of flattening and smoothing to get somep layable areaso ut of it. There wasn't a flat square inch on the terrain when I started laying it out. The area around the lake in the middle of the course actually became unworkable - I couldn't do any elevation work anymore. The only possible solution would have been to pick up the lake and all surrounding textures, but then I would have had to redo all that terrain and it would inevitably turn out looking worse. So all the final work on the 16th green had to be done by flattening and smoothing selected areas. It's a pretty tough hole to begin with, so I'm happy it turned out playable. I agree with PD's comment on the 9th - at least as far as my own designs are concerned :D It's a really nice looking hole.

Jimi...this may be your finest course to date...The challenges you must have had with the terrain and structure work had to be intense..You pulled it together nicely! Hole 9 may be one of the best Par fours in the game today..Thank You for the structures and textures you provide for designers...another Great course man...
