This course plays well and is fun to play. However, I ran into a couple of problems that made me think twice about it. On the plus side, the panorama is very nice and so are the trees, undulated and slanted fairways (with a different texture from the usual ones). The front 9 offers quite a few challenging holes starting with the par-4 1st, the par-4 5th (downhill dogleg) and the nice par-3 8th. The back 9 is a little bit repetitive with quite a few downhill shots from the tee but the par-4 10th hole, with its narrow fairway and water near the green, and the par-4 18th hole, a dogleg leading to the clubhouse, are very nice. On the minus side, the second house from the left near the green of the par-5 2nd hole is... blurred but, more importantly, there is a bug on the par-5 3rd hole as I got stuck at the bottom of the bridge (near the green) with no message informing me of a problem and nowhere to go and play... as the game froze ! As a result, I will not keep this course which, with a few improvements, here and there, could be a keeper for me...
For these reasons,

Being a native Michigander, I can verify that both spellings are correct and both pronounced the same...Mackinaw. Lovely little island, not big enough for a decent golf course, but would be a lovely spot for a movie.

No, the name is correct, however I don't believe the total yardages and at least the first couple of holes are not correct in ydg. Now, mind you, I have never designed a REAL course, so I don't really know how accurate one can be.
