A very encouraging first course, designed by NJJ062, rather easy with its wide fairways and greens (except for the par 3s), but more challenging and prettier on the back 9, with a winding creek coming into play on a few holes. After starting with a couple of right doglegs, I like the left dogleg par-4 3rd hole, with a tee shot flying over a lone tree and a bunker, in the middle of the fairway (near the corner), and with also a big lake on the right, and the nice but tricky par-3 5th, with a tee shot over a small creek, crossing the fairway diagonally (with a nice small bridge to look at), and a tree, on the left, partially hiding the small green. The left dogleg par-4 6th hole is also noteworthy, as you will hit your blind and steeply-downhill tee shot, while looking at... a big hill, right in front of the tee box (on the right), before walking over to the right dogleg par-4 7th, with a rectangular-shaped pond, across the fairway, two-thirds of the way, over which you will hit your approach to reach the green. As mentioned earlier, the back 9 is more interesting, visually and playing-wise, starting with the nice par-3 12th hole, with trees partially hiding the green (next to a wide lake on the far right), and the dogleg par-4 13th, bending sharply to the right, with trees in the corner and a tough second shot over more trees and the winding creek to get to the green. As for the last finishing holes (mostly left doglegs), the scenier one is the pretty par-3 15th, with a tee shot flying above the winding creek below and landing onto the green, with three bunkers to watch for in front. Overall, if this par 72 looks nice with its mountain panorama (and even with those unusual and tiny pine trees, mentioned by BladeRunnerZA below !), adding a few bunkers and some elevation along the fairways (and/or the greens) would have made this course more enjoyable. But, then again, for a first design, NJJ062 did pretty well and he learned pretty quickly, as you will find out if you play his two other real courses (Silver Lakes and the gorgeous Pretoria Country Club).

Hi NJ, nice to see another SA course. I thought this was a pretty good attempt. I'ts hard to rate a real course if one has not been there and seeing that this one is now extinct i'll just mention a couple of things.
Although, judging from the photos, this is appears to be a flat track i thought a little more undulation in the terrain work would add a bit more realism to the course.
Some of the bunkers had turned up bunker lips, just need to watch your technique here. (there are some excellent tutorials on this site)
At first i was a little disturbed by the miniture pine trees dotted around close to the edge of the fairways, i thought that these had been left here by mistake but after looking at the photos again i realised that you were being true to the course.
Hope to see more courses out of SA...

Enjoyed this course a lot, nice greens good selection of textures and trees, maybe the fairways are a bit easy, could have some more bunkers here and there to make you think a bit more, but great course! Look forward to your next course, good job!
