After playing this par 73, I can safely say that your brother would have been very proud of the course you designed in his memory... With nice rocky mountains to look at, elevation changes and plenty of trees and bunkers to watch for, not to mention a few water hazards, you will have to think twice before hitting some shots if you want to score well, reaching some of those undulating and (often) elevated greens). The left dogleg par-5 opening hole, downhill all the way, is a nice way to start, with a very long second shot if you want to reach the green, and is followed by the short par-4 2nd, where you will need to hit a blind uphill tee shot before aiming your shot for the green, guarded by two big bunkers in front, and the very pretty and slightly-downhill par-3 3rd hole, with an undulating green, surrounded halfway by water. The next three holes are right doglegs, with the par-4 5th, with a blind and downhill tee shot over bushes all across the fairway, and the par-4 6th, uphill all the way, with a blind approach to the greenk, being the nicest. I also like the straight par-5 7th hole, with a tee shot over a wide rocky area and a second shot downhill over a path crossing the fairway (two-thirds of the way), toward the green, with thick trees around, and the nice left dogleg par-4 9th, with a downhill tee shot landing near trees in the corner and an uphill approach toward the green, with a big pond in front, to the left. The back 9 has some even nicer and more challenging holes, such as the left dogleg par-4 10th, with a downhill tee shot (and a small serpentine river, way down on the far right), and a blind uphill approach to the green over a small wide rock formation and trees, partially hiding the green, guarded by two bunkers in front (to the left), the straight par-4 11th, with a second shot over trees and a small pond behind, in front of the green, and the long par-5 12th, pretty straight, with a second shot over bushes crossing the fairway diagonally, and an elevated green, slightly to the left. The long par-3 13th hole is not to be overlooked either, with water crossing the fairway all along, in front near the green, and neither is the par-4 14th, with a bunker, midway, on a gentle sloped fairway and a blind uphill approach to the green, with plenty of shrubs in front. On the straight par-5 15th hole, you will have to be careful with your tee shot if you don’t want to end up facing a small rocky wall, splitting the fairway across, halfway, before hitting your approach toward its slightly-elevated green, just like on the par-4 16th, with a blind and downhill tee shot landing past a tall tree and another small rocky wall, diagonally across the sloped fairway. Then, after the par-3 17th hole, where you will need to hit another blind and uphill tee shot over another rocky area and a green, hidden by trees and surrounded by four small bunkers, you will complete your round with the very scenic and downhill par-5 18th, with a tough second shot flying over a serpentine river twice to reach the green, slightly to the left. Quite enjoyable and challenging with plenty of trees, bunkers and other obstacles (often) in the way, you should have, in fact, renamed your course Jerry’s Stairway... to heaven !
