With a nice English countryside panorama, some small rocky walls, a couple of medieval buildings and a lot of doglegs and water hazards, especially on the back 9, this par 72 could have been a keeper for me but, unfortunately, a few grainy patches between the horizon and the layout made me change my mind. But since I am not sure if it is peculiar to playing with TW07, I let you be the judge... On the front 9, I like the sharp left dogleg par-4 1st hole, with medieval towers and leftover ramparts on a hilltop on the right, a big elongated bunker in the middle of the fairway and another one to the left near the green, partially surrounded by a small rocky wall, and the par-5 3rd, with its wide open view and downhill tee shot, another elongated bunker in the middle of the fairway, and a long uphill approach shot to the green, guarded across in front by a bunker, with a small rocky wall in a half-moon shape behind it. The next two holes are straight : the par-4 4th has a small hill all along on the left side, just like the par-3 5th hole, slightly downhill to the green. The last three-hole stretch is very picturesque : the dogleg par-5 7th hole turns sharply to the right, with plenty of trees on a hilltop in the right corner along with a few medieval buildings, the par-3 8th is straight with some wasteland filled with dirt and bushes in the middle and an uphill green, and the right dogleg par-5 9th hole is gorgeous with a small castle, those ramparts and towers (seen on the 1st hole) on the hilltop on the right, and a big lake to the left past the corner with a nice green and a covered bridge behind ! The back 9 has a lot of nice holes too, such as the left dogleg par-4 10th, with an elongated lake on the left and a very tiny fairway in the corner, the straight par-4 11th hole, with that lake again on the left and an undulating fairway, and the short left dogleg par-5 12th, with a big bunker across midway and a big bunker in front, to the right of the green. After the par-3 13th hole, with its downhill tee shot and a green surrounded by a small mound (and a nice panoramic view), one of my favorite holes is the straight and very scenic par-3 15th, with a blind and downhill tee shot to the island green ! As if you did not have enough water on the back 9, the last three holes will keep you on your toes : the dogleg par-4 16th hole has a lake on the left and needs a downhill shot to reach the green, the par-4 17th is beautiful with a twisting and narrow fairway between two elongated lakes, and the right dogleg par-5 18th hole requires a blind and downhill tee shot, with a fairway hugging the lake on the right with two elongated bunkers in the middle to watch for ! Overall, the Highlander Golf Club is quite enjoyable and you should definitely give it a try. But, as I said at the beginning, displaying bugs “spoiled” it for me and, with so many great courses already and still plenty more to discover, I will bypass this one, despite the nice job done by lpartee04 !
