A superb course with great elevation changes (especially on the front 9), nice mountains and the ocean as a panorama, and some very challenging holes with great attention paid to details (beautiful clubhouse, small log cabins, houses, lighthouse, etc...). This par 71 starts with the beautiful par-4 1st hole, with a steep downhill tee shot, a big pond on the left, and two big bunkers way below the elevated green, and continues with the gorgeous par-4 2nd, with another steep downhill shot, an elongated lake on the left, and the green above the water, slightly to the left, with nice rocks around and a beautiful clubhouse behind it. Then comes the long (more than 620 yards) right dogleg par-5 3rd hole where, as mentioned in previous comments, you better play it safe on your second shot if you want to be able to reach the green on top of a very high cliff on your approach shot (I did with a 7-iron even though I was "only" 140 yards away) ! Another challenging, and spectacular hole, is the scary par-3 4th, where your steep downhill tee shot will have to avoid a small elongated lake on the left of a... small and elongated green (with a couple of bunkers on the right), in order to admire the nice small log cabin, further to the right. After these very tough holes, two more left doglegs follow : the par-4 5th, with a downhill tee shot next to the cliff on the left, partially hidden by a couple of trees in the corner, and an uphill green, and the slightly-uphill par-4 6th hole, with a clear view of the cliffs and the ocean below on the left. The right dogleg par-4 7th hole is very pretty too with a steep (and blind) downhill shot over trees down in the right corner and an elevated green, and is followed by the left dogleg par-4 8th, slightly uphill all the way to the green, with a small lake on the right side midway through (and trees in the left corner), and the down-and-up par-4 9th hole, with the green to the right. The back 9 has less elevations and more wide-open views but still has some tough holes, starting with the long (more than 650 yards) left par-5 10th, with a downhill tee shot over a small ravine and an uphill approach shot to the green, with the ocean behind. The left dogleg par-4 11th hole is quite pretty as the fairway follows the cliff on the left side with a steep downhill tee shot, and a nice view of a lighthouse, way on top on the left side, further back as you reach the green. Then, after the right dogleg par-4 12th hole, with colorful bushes on the left of the tee, and the par-4 14th, with a downhill tee shot landing on a serpentine fairway, with a big bunker to watch for on the right, you will see a... windmill (in the back of the green) on the right dogleg par-4 15th hole, with a downhill tee shot over a small mound on the right, and visible again (on the left of the tee) on the scenic right dogleg par-4 16th, with a big pond, not far below from the elevated green ! Finally, after the straight par-4 17th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing near a big lake and an approach shot over part of it, you will conclude your round with the gorgeous par-3 18th hole with an uphill shot over a deep lake to reach the sloped green, surrounded by grandstands and the nice cluhhouse on the left. With its beautiful scenery and its challenging holes, Charlevoix SDG Golf Club is one of the best courses ever created by Chimaera Design and, definitely, a masterpiece in my book and, hopefully, in yours too !

I rated this a masterpiece, not just for the beauty of the scenery, holes & pano, but the playability of this course feels like I am playing on a real course. It has all the challenges that makes this course one you need to think first before hitting the ball (like on Hole 3 - a Par 5 - that if you are not carefull, it is easy to shoot an 8). Great elevations, fair greens for play on DRY and VERY DRY (except hole 4, very tough putting hole), and the undulations are smooth. Great job. This is a Fantasy course that is a keeper.

Great looking course, Jimi. No one carves up a piece of turf like you do. Got a butchers knife handy (lol). Whent through all the clubs to figure out how to get up that cliff, thought i was playing racket ball for a moment (lmao)

Mach, stay in the fairway for your approach. If you're left with 170/180 yds to the green, a 5 iron with the slider all the way to the right should do it. I birdied it only yesterday, on very dry, too.

A great looking course, but I found Hole 3 to be impossible to get the ball up to that elevated green. If anyone can figure out how to do it, please post. Even the computer opponent I was playing against couldn't do it. Both of us ended up conceding the hole.
