If you liked the movie “Groundhog day”, you will love the first four holes on this course ; if not, you might want to quit and that would be a “shame”, as this par 70, with its elevation changes, beautiful trees and wide lakes, is very scenic and enjoyable while being quite challenging with a lot of short risk/rewards holes and plenty of doglegs. After the nice right dogleg par-4 1st hole, with its blind downhill tee shot past trees in the corner, its undulated fairway, and a wide lake (with a few rocks in it), to the right and behind the green, the next two holes are getting shorter and shorter ! The similar par-4 2nd hole is another right dogleg, about 60 yards shorter (about 370 yards), with a clear view of the green instead and a downhill tee shot over part of the lake, and is followed by the par-4 3rd, about 330 yards, with a green, slightly to the right, with big rocks in the lake, and the straight downhill par-3 4th hole, with a big rock to the right in the lake, midway through. The par-5 5th hole follows the lake on the right, with a split fairway twisting right, then left, with some deep rough after, before turning to the right again, and requires a long approach shot over the lake to reach the green. I also like the picturesque and short (about 270 yards) par-4 6th hole, with plenty of tall trees on the left hiding the green, surrounded by a couple of big bunkers, leaving you with a tough choice of a blind downhill tee shot to try to reach it or a safe shot landing on the right, not far from the lake. The short par-4 7th hole (about 340 yards) is also very pretty with a downhill and panoramic view from the tee, a big bunker on the left, an island green on the right (but not for this hole !) and a nice castle further up. The green, mentioned above, is the one you will face on the very short par-3 8th hole, that you will reach walking on a very original “bridge”, made with wood and rocks, before heading for the spectacular and short (about 300 yards) steep uphill par-4 9th hole, with a small lake on the right and the castle above the green on the left. The back 9 starts with two short risk/reward holes : the par-4 10th, about 340 yards, is quite scenic with a nice view of the lake far away in front (from the tee box), but with a steep slope down the fairway with big twisted bunkers on both sides at the bottom of small hills, and the left dogleg par-4 11th hole (about 330 yards) where, with the lake on the left, you will fall short of the green if you try to reach it ! After the nice par-4 12th hole, with a tee shot over part of a lake bending to the left along the fairway and an uphill approach shot to the green, you will reach the very scenic, albeit not too difficult, par-3 13th, with a nice island path on the left to reach the green downhill on the other bank of the lake. The par-4 14th hole, with its downhill tee shot along the lake on the left and plenty of trees on the right of the undulated fairway is nice too, with a slightly-downhill green, surrounded halfway by a small hill with a big bunker at the bottom on the right, but it cannot match the scary left dogleg par-4 15th, with its steep downhill tee shot over a wide lake and its elevated green ! The left dogleg par-5 16th hole is similar to the 15th, but is quite short (about 460 yards) and “just” needs a tee shot over the lake (not downhill), and an approach shot to its elevated green to have a chance to putt for an eagle. Then, after the waterless left dogleg par-4 17th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing on a fairway surrounded by bunkers and small hills, you will finish with the very scenic par-3 18th, with a downhill tee shot flying by the castle on the left side with an elongated lake below. Les Deux Lacs is a very nice and challenging course, requiring a lot of thinking if you want to avoid getting wet but, thanks to the nice work (and imagination) of Chimaera Design, you will have a good time playing over there !
