Very interesting links-style course, fun to play, pretty and quite challenging (especially on the back 9), with a few water hazards, some well-placed bunkers and steep elevation changes, but the textures used for the ocean and a couple of rocks could have looked better... As you stand on the tee box on the straight par-4 1st hole, you will admire a nice panoramic view, with a steeply-downhill tee shot and an uphill approach to the elevated green (with the ocean far behind), before facing, later on, two consecutive par-5 holes, the scenic right dogleg 4th, with a wide sandy area (filled with a few shrubs) splitting the fairway, midway, and an uphill approach to the green, and the left dogleg 5th, with a downhill tee shot landing near two elongated bunkers (on both sides of the fairway, midway), and an elevated green, too far to reach on your second shot. Another noteworthy hole is the pretty right dogleg par-4 9th, uphill all the way, with a couple of small bunkers in the middle of the fairway and a nice view of a big castle, way above the green, as you hit your approach. The back 9 starts with the beautiful par-4 10th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing between an elongated bunker (on the left), a smaller one (in the middle of the fairway), with the ocean (on the right), and offers a pretty sight of a lighthouse, way beyond the undulating green, and is followed by the nice par-3 11th, with a tee shot over a small river crossing the fairway and flowing out into the ocean (on the right). The very picturesque left dogleg par-4 12th hole, on another hand, is quite risky with a downhill tee shot (hopefully) landing past the winding river, crossing the fairway, midway, whereas the left dogleg par-5 13th will challenge you with a blind and uphill tee shot landing close to an elongated bunker (on the left), with a second shot downhill toward a wide elongated lake (on the right) and a short approach to the green. Another scenic and very challenging hole is the par-4 14th, where you will have to choose your club carefully before teeing off over a wide lake, as you will have to make sure not to land too close to a high rocky wall, all across the fairway, over which you will have to hit your approach to reach the steeply-elevated green (with a nice... windmill on the right !). Then, after the very short par-4 15th hole, with its green, potentially reachable from the tee box (with some tailwind !), but quite risky with a big elongated lake all along the fairway, ending in front of it, you will gaze at the gorgeous left dogleg par-4 16th, with a big elongated lake (on the left), a wide bunker (on the right and partially across the fairway, midway) and its island green, before finishing with the pretty left dogleg par-4 18th hole, with a downhill tee shot over a wide sandy area (and with the castle on a hilltop, to the right) and an uphill approach to the elevated green. Overall, if this par 72 cannot be visually compared to some of the most famous links courses, available on this site, you should not be afraid of this Dragon’s den and, who knows, you might even be... fired up, thanks to Chimarea’s imaginative design !
