If you expect to see boats anchored near this New Port course, you will be in for a big surprise as there are none ! And don’t look for the ocean either... Instead, you will face a nicely-designed course, with plenty of dirt filled all around with deep rough and various-sized shrubs, along with a few trees, a couple of lakes (but not really water hazards), and with wide undulated fairways and greens, whose putting lines are hard to read, sometimes, with little undulations around the cups. On the front 9, I enjoyed the right dogleg par-4 2nd, with a tee shot landing onto a small plateau and a green, slightly downhill (with a small lake on the far left), the pretty par-3 4th, with an uphill tee shot over a wide ditch filled with deep rough and shrubs, and the right dogleg par-4 5th, with a tee shot around (or over) a small hill, with a few trees next to more rough and bushes (and with elongated bunkers behind on both sides), and a slightly-downhill green. I also liked two other holes : the par-3 7th is downward, with a blind tee shot over more rough and shrubs, and is followed by the straight par-4 8th, where you will need to hit a blind tee shot landing short of deep rough and big bushes, splitting the fairway, midway, before firing another blind and uphill shot toward the green. Coming back, after the pretty par-3 10th hole, with a blind tee shot over more deep rough and big bushes, you will face a few doglegs, looking similar to the ones on the front 9 (par-4 11th, 13th), and three more par-5 holes where you should get eagle opportunities (12th, 15th, 18th) while admiring, in between, the scenic par-3 16th, with another blind tee shot flying over more big bushes and rough. But overall, if the countryside is pretty and the plantings nice, this par 74 lacks a little variety, especially on the back 9, but it is, nevertheless, a good course to play offering a good challenge if you want to finish with a low scorecard.
