With only 2 libraries to download (can you believe it !), this Atomium course may hold the record for the fewest ones ever needed. And guess what ? It looks good too, with its nice trees and houses and its lone windmill !
And, despite its wide open (and often undulated) fairways, this par 72 is challenging, at times, with a few blind shots and some water hazards, not to mention quite a few elevated (and sloped) greens, a little faster than usual (but still playable !).
After a nice start, with two straight par-4 holes, along a canal (on the right, and the... Atomium further to the right), you will move on to the par-5 3rd, with a fairway winding its way to the left around a few trees (on the right) leaving you with a very long second shot uphill if you want to reach the green.
After the Atomium, you will see a windmill on the par-3 4th hole (on the far right behind the green), before seeing it closer on the straight par-4 6th (midway, on the right), with an elevated green, guarded in front by two huge bunkers on both sides.
But the toughest hole on the front 9 is the very long par-3 9th (290 yards !), where you will have to hit a blind tee shot while making sure to avoid a big pond on the right of the elevated green.
The back 9 is nicer and harder, starting with the picturesque par-4 10th hole, with a downhill tee shot flying between two houses, and a second shot toward a sloped green (with a big church and big houses to gaze at (not too far behind, on the right), and continuing with the tough dogleg right par-4 11th, with a steeply downhill tee shot and a blind approach over trees and a small lake to reach the hidden green...
Then, after a few easier holes, you will reach the short par-4 15th, with a lake, near the green (on the left) and a big tree in front of the green (on the right), before walking over to the par-3 16th, interesting with its square pond across the fairway, two-thirds of the way.
Finally, after the short dogleg left par-4 17th hole, along a few trees (on the left) and with a second shot over a cart path, crossing the fairway, not too far from its elevated green, you will complete your round with the straight par-5 18th, with trees all along (on the right) and four wide bunkers scattered around the fairway, before admiring, one more time, the nice view of the church, behind and above the sloped green.
Fun to play and nice to look at, this course is quite different from other ones, created by Chimaera Design, and if you can avoid bogeys on the long par-3 holes and make a few putts, here and there, you should enjoy it even if the Atomium “landed” far away from Brussels !

Beste Martijn (dear Martijn).
Pas nu kwam ik te Dollegem aan, en het beviel me er goed. (Just now I arrived at Dollegem, and I really like it).
Dank u zeer!

Yes it's me. It may have been one of my last designs as I'm starting to get a bit bored with it after 10+ years. It's been fun. But I don't think I can take this thing much further. Designing starts to become a bit repetitive and boring for me. I might do one more really funky farewell course, but that should be basically it.

And what was this designers name before becoming Chimarea. More to the point....a fun custom, well done who ever you are.

I should have known. Sneaky little devil aren't you jimi? I know I am getting too old not immediately picking up on your unmistakeable style. Pardon me, but I've got to go wash my face. I think there is a substantial amount of "Egg" on it.

Although this course looks nice, I did see what looked to be some over optimisation in some rough areas which gives a bit of a wash-out appearance to the texture. In addition, the green texture has tiled quite noticeably and the colour doesn't appear to match that of the surrounding terrain colouration.

I found the greens to be suicidal on very dry and even if missing the pin by a foot or so, the ball would career off down the slope at a rate of knots to end up about 50 foot away in the rough. Some pin positions are noticeably bunkered down which although this is a non-real design, if the designer was wanting to create a realistic fictional course, these bunkered areas are just not natural.

Sorry Jimi but this one is almost unplayable for freehand TS or 3 clickers in expert mode playing very dry.

Nice enough effort, water looks nice and flat and good job on structures as ever. However, due to my preferred way of playing, this isn't a keeper for me.

One thing I meant to mention in my original comment is directed at the speed of the greens. A great number of people here like to play on extra dry green conditions and difficult pin settings, myself included. I think I made mention of the fact on your first release and it also pertains to this course. Under very dry conditions, the speed of the greens on both of your designs exceeds the speed of most of the customs here by quite a margin. The tenth hole on this course is almost at a point where it is unputtable. I had two computer players (experts with high abilities) each take a 13 on the hole because they finally after 10 minutes of fruitless and stupid putting, conceded the hole. This became very frustrating to me having to whitness this pathetic display of putting on their part, not to mention that it is also very time consuming. In my opinion and in the best interest of the players, a slight toning down of the green speeds would probably be greatly appreciated.

I was almost certain after seeing your first design, but I am totally certain now. You are one of the few lucky people that just have a natural talent for course landscaping and design. Like your first release, the hole layouts, elevations, undulations and textures are superb. Great structures and other unique objects surrounding the course are masterfully placed. It was also very nice for you to pay tribute to this site by the use of your custom flags. I will overlook the model of the structure of an atom because that is the theme of the course is it not? For me it was a minor distraction that looked a little out of place in comparison to the rest of the surroundings. Both this course and your other almost make me think that I am in "jimi land". Both your techniques and talents are quite similar. Because your courses reflect a strong European flavor, I have a favor to ask of you. Most of us here in North America are not too familiar with a lot of the European courses other than maybe the ones we are exposed to watching the European Tour. Because of your beautiful design work, I for one would love to see some renditions from you of some traditional in style, courses from the other side of the pond. It would make for a great addition to some of the super designs that already have been created for TW 08. Let me again give thanks for this design and tell you that this is really good stuff you are putting out here.
