First of all, this Pine Valley Golf Club is not another reproduction of the real course, located in the Camden county in New Jersey, and brilliantly designed by SandSaver.
Instead, this fantasy course is set in Perth, as you will see with its beautiful city skyline and it has quite a few nice holes, with the front 9 being more challenging than on the way back, where fairways are flatter and wider.
On the front 9, I like the right dogleg par-4 1st hole, with its pretty panoramic view of the skyline, its big lake on the right side of a tree-lined fairway and behind the slightly-downhill green, guarded by a big bunker across in front.
Two other nice holes follow : the par-4 2nd, with two deep elongated bunkers halfway through on both sides of the fairway, twisting left, then right toward the green, again guarded by a big bunker across (and with a horseshoe-shaped small pond behind it), and the very scenic par-3 3rd hole, with a tee shot over a big lake (with a nice bridge on the left) and a pretty panoramic view of the bay as you reach the green, surrounded by three bunkers.
The right dogleg par-4 4th and 5th holes are a little bit similar, with bunkers on both sides around the corners of the fairways, with a lake on the right side and slightly-downhill greens, unlike the tough and picturesque par-3 6th hole, with a tee shot over a river, with plenty of trees lined up on the other bank with a tiny green in between.
The par-4 7th hole and par-4 8th holes are both doglegs, with two bunkers in the corner making the fairway quite narrow on the first one, and an elongated one, with the river further to the right on the latter, but they are not overly difficult.
The next two holes, however, will require big power shots : the right dogleg par-5 9th is long (almost 700 yards) and pretty, with an elongated lake on the left, and a big pond with big rocks around in front of the green, hidden by tall trees and surrounded by three deep bunkers, whereas the other right dogleg par-5 10th hole is even longer (almost 730 yards !) and is slightly downhill all the way to the green, with elongated bunkers spread apart on both sides of a very wide fairway, and plenty of bare land behind the flag.
The rest of the course is more wide-open and easier with wider fairways, but it has some nice holes too, such as the par-3 11th, quite scenic with a wide bunker across between the tee and the green.
The next few holes (left dogleg par-4 12th, right dogleg par-4 13th and 14th holes) have nice views of the city skyline from the tees, and the par-3 15th hole is straight, with a green, almost surrounded by two big bunkers.
The right dogleg par-4 16th hole, on another hand, is quite tricky and nice, with an elongated pond on the left side and an elongated bunker on the right of the tree-lined fairway, a few small bunkers spread along a little bit further, and a green, partially hidden by trees and with a u-shaped small pond in front.
Then, after the long (about 685 yards) right dogleg par-5 17thhole, slightly downhill all the way to the green, with two elongated bunkers in the corner and a few more across the fairway further down, you will finish with the left dogleg par-4 18th, with a small lake and an enormous rock in (on the left side), and two big elongated bunkers on both sides of the fairway, a little bit apart, before heading for the modern-looking clubhouse, with an unusual soil around...
With its beautiful panorama, Pine Valley Golf Club is a nice course to play and, even though the front 9 is more challenging, the long par-5 holes on the back 9 will test you enough for you to enjoy it, thanks to willie's nice design !
