Another pretty tropical course but, unlike some others from rlslay, this par 73 is too tough for me, and it started from the opening par-5 hole, with a tee shot over a big pond landing onto a tree-lined fairway winding its way to the right, then to the left, and back to the right toward an elevated green, potentially reachable on a blind second shot, depending on where your tee shot landed. Three dogleg par-4 holes follow, with my favorite being the par-4 3rd, bending to the left and along trees on the bank of a lake, ending near the green, but the 2nd and 4th holes (to the right) are not easy with a blind and uphill tee shot landing down onto an undulating fairway and with another elevated green on the first one, and a big mound, midway, with a bunker in the middle, and an undulating green, on the latter. Then, after enjoying the scenic par-3 5th hole, with an elongated bunker all the way ending next to the green (on the left), you will face the gorgeous par-5 6th, but very tough because of its distance (645 yards !) and its huge elongated lake in the middle ending in front of the green, making your tee shot quite tricky (play it safe on the left), just like your second shot (across the lake, to the right), and your approach (over the lake (to the left) to reach a sloping green. Fortunately, after two easier holes (par-4 7th and 8th), the wide open par-3 9th will offer you a beautiful sight, with a tee shot over plenty of sand and with a small lake, starting two-thirds of the way and surrounding most of the green, in a horseshoe-shape. Your joy, however, will be a short one as you move on to the dogleg par-5 10th hole, quite long (around 600 yards), with two bunkers, lined up a few yards apart, midway in the inner corner, a blind second shot landing onto a very undulating fairway, and a short approach to an elevated green, set to the right. The next four holes will challenge you, starting with the dogleg right par-4 11th, with a blind an uphill approach over big mounds to reach the green, followed by the straight par-4 12th, quite short (around 325 yards) but pretty with water on both sides of the green, the par-3 13th, with a blind tee shot uphill to reach the small elevated green, and the dogleg left par-4 14th, with trees, partially hiding the view of the elevated green. Two more dogleg left par-5 holes await you on your way home : the 15th requires a tee shot landing onto a very narrow fairway, midway, with bunkers (on the left) and a lake (on the right), and a tough approach to the green, with trees in the way, hiding it, and the long (around 580 yards) and pretty 18th , along a huge lake (on the left), and with a creek, winding its way diagonally across the fairway, to the right, then to the left, and over which you will have to hit your two – or three – shots to reach its sloping green ! With very tough par-5 holes, you better play it safe and not go for broke like I did (scored 13 ! on the 6th hole) if you want to have a chance to finish at even (or below) par, but don’t underestimate the other holes, quite tricky too, with plenty of elevation changes and sloping greens... If not, this Coconut Key Island GC will drive you... nuts !

1,456 downloads & only 6 comments - OK, let's make it 7! Those earlier comments used adjectives like gorgeous & challenging, so here's the first word that came into my mind - lush! Sure, it's a tropical setting, but your artistry with trees, plants, textures & even grass is really a treat. Excellent as always, Rob...
