Another pretty and not too difficult course from ron717, fun to watch and play, with the beautiful Lake Tahoe pano, small elevation changes, wide undulating fairways and... huge greens (if you read the architect’s comments, but... small when you look at the description before playing !). On the front 9, I like the right dogleg par-4 1st hole, slightly-uphill all the way, with a wide fairway and a road, on the right, winding its way behind the green, and the left dogleg par-5 2nd, with a tee shot over a wide lake and a green, hard to reach on your second shot with trees all along on the left, hiding it. On the straight par-3 3rd hole (with small rivers running on both sides of the wide fairway, and bunkers surrounding the green), your concentration will be tested upon hearing an invisible train blowing its horn as you get ready to tee off (!), but you should “recover”, right after, with an eagle opportunity on the right dogleg par-5 5th, slightly-uphill all the way, before facing the more challenging right dogleg par-4 6th, with a few bunkers, in the right corner, making your tee shot a little bit tricky if you want to have a clear view of the green, surrounded halfway by a small lake. Then, after hearing that train again on the straight and slightly-downhill par-4 9th hole, you will move on to the par-4 10th, with a slightly downhill tee shot and a blind approach toward the elevated green, slightly to the left, with a small pond on the left and an elongated lake behind. The scenery then changes as water comes into play on quite a few holes, after the pretty downhill par-3 13th, with a big clover-shaped bunker, right in front of the green, starting with the nice right dogleg par-5 14th, with a shallow rocky ditch splitting the fairway, midway, and a little creek running all along the fairway (on the far right), and over which you will have to hit your approach to reach its elevated and sloped green. After the right dogleg par-4 15th hole, with a few wide bunkers, midway on the right, and a beautiful view of the Lake Tahoe pano, way below (as your hit your uphill approach to the green), you will face another pretty panoramic view on the par-4 16th, with a small lake, next to the tee (on the left) and a wider one, midway (on the right) ending past the green, just like on the par-3 17th, very picturesque with a tee shot over a wide lake again, landing in front of a nice small house, behind which you will finally see that “invisible” train (LOL !)... You will finish with the straight par-4 18th hole, pretty with its fairway hugging a wide lake (on the left, and ending behind the green), before hitting one last blind and uphill approach to see that (non moving) train honking his horn again ! Overall, this par 72 is well designed, once again by ron717, and if you can manage to score birdies or eagles on the four par-5 holes, you should finish with a low scorecard before asking yourself the following question : who came in there first ? Amtrack or the golf course ?
