This South course is a perfect complement to the North version, with beautiful wide lakes once again (and only one hole without water !), plenty of wide fairways with a few tiny greens, but is not as difficult despite soeme nice holes and a gorgeous (and very tough) three-hole finishing stretch.
On the front 9, my favorite holes are the opening right dogleg par-4, with a wide lake on the left on your second shot toward the undulating green, the left dogleg par-5 3rd, with a big tee shot over a wide lake, with a split fairway, halfway, and a very long second shot to the slightly-elevated green, with four bunkers in front, and another lake behind.
The par-3 4th hole is beautiful too, with a slightly-downward tee shot to the wide peninsula green, with a small bunker in the middle.
Then, after the right dogleg par-4 5th hole, with another tee shot over a wide lake landing near some tall trees in the right corner, hiding the view of the elevated green (along a lake on the left), you will face the par-3 6th, quite scenic, with a slightly-downhill tee shot toward the tiny elongated green (on the edge of an elongated lake on the left), and with a big bunker on the right (not far from another wide lake).
As for the left dogleg par-4 9th hole, with a fairway hugging the lake on the left, you will need to hit a risky approach over the water to reach its tiny peninsula green, with a little slope in the middle.
On your way back, you will have a tough decision to make on the long (around 600 yards) par-5 11th hole, with a very tricky second over a lake crossing the green all the way in front (with a nice covered bridge on the right), before heading, after the par-3 12th (the only hole without water), to the right dogleg par-4 15th hole, with plenty of trees in the middle of the fairway, leaving you with a choice of hitting your tee shot to the right or to the left, before firing your second shot to the green, with a lake on the far right.
But the best has yet to come, with the last three holes...
The par-3 16th is simply superb and the signature hole of this course, with its island green linked by two bridges in the middle of a wide lake, and is followed by the beautiful but tricky and short (around 350 yards) par-4 17th, with a peninsula green facing the tee box (with two small bridges on both sides), too far to reach, leaving you with no choice but to lay up and hit your tee shot safely on the right side of the fairway, before moving on to the pretty left dogleg par-5 18th hole, with a very wide lake on the left, and bunkers in the corner.
With these two TPC at Avondale courses, plawlor has proven his designing talent and improved his 2007 designs and you won't be disappointed playing both versions, gorgeous to look at and quite challenging...

P.S. No matter what shader setting you have, water looks nice (compared to TW07) : set to "auto", it looks smooth, whereas, set to "medium", you can see all the ripples on the lakes. Try switching the option on the par-3 4th hole and you will see the difference... Then, up to you to decide, which one you like best !

Peter, very nice courses and I was not aware that you could use the word pano so many times as jmeier did in his post a few years back, just wanted to add that, but overall very well done.

Pano seams actually come from the pano, have nothing whatsoever to do with the course creation. It comes from not creating the images to perfect size for the pano configuration file used for how many segments are in the pano. The pano image needs to be 12280 by 1024 or 512. If the 12280 is not divided precisely among the segments of the pano or they do not total 12280 there will be black seams in both 07 and & 08. Also the pano creator needs to make sure the object file for the pano contains all of the proper settings for 07 and newer as it changed from 06. I know this has nothing to do with Peters course, but I thought I would add it as I have seen so many comments on courses regarding pano seams when they nothing to do with using the CA or creating a course at all.

Peter, I thought I would leave comments for one course because although different layouts, the overall design application is very similar. When thesse two sister courses first appeared for TW06 they became an instant hit with me. They were both very challenging because of all the water, and tricky greens. In 07, I was one of a lot of people who had water texture issues in custom designs either because of a neon like appearance or too blue and opaque looking. For me, both the Avondale courses water textures were somewhat mediocre looking and it was not until the 07 versions were played in TW08 that the water started to look real good again. Also because of the pano designing change in 07, numerous customs reflected the black vertical lines that would appear with considerable regularity in a lot of the designs. Both these courses had these pano seam lines on a number of holes but not as frequently and noticeable as in a lot of other custom designs. You did not mention what changes you actually made for 08 but obviously both courses underwent an extensive texture overhaul. The grass textures, new trees and of course the water all look great in 08 versions. Like a number of other 07 customs that were reintroduced for 08, Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills just to mention a couple, the problem of the seams still remains. Although this issue is not detramental to the actual design, for me it is a visual annoyance that was actually the main reason other than the water, that caused me to uninstall the 07 game. So many of the 07 custom designs were plagued by both of these issues. I am sure these abnormalities are not the fault of the designers but rather the inability of the 06 CA to cope with the game changes that were initiated starting with TW07. For me, visual appeal is everything in course design and I know with a lot of people it is much less of an issue. I dont know wether this seam issue can even be fixed without creating an entirely new plot map. Most of the 07 custom courses that had this problem in 07 and were revamped and introduced as an 08 version never were able to rid themselves of this seam glitch. Anyway, aside from that, both Avondale versions for 08 are excellent and are better than the previous versions. Thank you for the new versions because they are very nice looking and a lot of fun to play.
