A very pleasant and wide open course, with a countryside atmosphere (small hills, nice fences, tiny stone houses), and challenging, at times, with some elevation changes and water hazards coming into play. After the right dogleg par-4 1st hole, uphill all the way, with a blind tee shot and an undulating fairway, you will face an unusual sight as you stand on the tee of the short par-4 2nd, with a... hot air balloon (on the far left, but not moving), before hitting your drive (with a lake, midway on the left) toward the downhill green (with a nice fence behind), potentially reachable with a (very) strong tailwind. You will see that lake, again on the left, on the nice par-3 3rd, with a lone tree (on the left), partially hiding the green, before facing later on the left dogleg par-5 5th, with a blind tee shot landing near a tiny stream (midway, on the right) and an uphill approach to the elevated green (with a lake behind). If the par-4 6th hole is straight, it is uphill all the way, with a fairway narrow in the middle, with a lake (on the left) and deep rough and trees (on the right), and a blind approach to the green, but I prefer the scenic par-3 7th (seen on the above picture) with a tee shot flying over a narrow tree-lined fairway, with a serpentine creek in the middle, and a nice panoramic view as you reach the green. Another noteworthy hole is the par-4 9th, with a blind and uphill tee shot over plenty of deep rough landing down onto a rollercoaster fairway, and a steeply-elevated green. The back 9 has some nice holes too, such as the par-3 10th, with a tee shot over an elongated lake and a small pond behind (way below), and the pretty par-4 11th, with a downhill tee shot falling short of a small lake, over which you will have to hit your approach to reach the green. Then, after the short par-4 12th hole, with an uphill tee shot and a blind second shot downward to the green (with a grey ocean further below), you will reach the nice left dogleg par-4 13th, downhill all the way, with trees partially hiding a lake, midway on the left, and a nice and clear view of the green (with another unusual billboard announcing the... 35th Ryder Cup, taking place at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, in... 2004 !). After that “back to the future trip”, you will move on to the right dogleg par-5 14th hole, uphill all the way, with two small elongated bunkers in the right corner (midway of the undulating fairway) and a long and blind second shot toward the green (with trees on the left to watch for, and the ocean behind)... On the picturesque par-3 16th hole, after a downhill tee shot landing onto an island with an undulating green (and the ocean further behind), your ears will be awakened with a couple of geese flying by (and “honking” too !), before walking over to the nice par-5 17th, with a blind tee shot landing near a winding creek, crossing the fairway below, and a very long (and blind) second shot over it toward the elevated green, slightly to the left (with that hot air balloon visible again). With more advertising billboards seen from the tee of the par-4 18th (Grouse whisky, Jaguar), you will hit your final downhill and blind tee shot over a small stream, crossing the fairway, midway below (with two nice small ponds, further on the right), before hitting your approach to the elevated green (with a big scoreboard next to a very pretty clubhouse). With a few unusual sights (hot air balloon, advertising billboards), a nice layout and... logo, Engguy did a good job designing this par 71 (even though the ocean looks too grey and does not blend in well with the mountainous panorama), but I prefer some of his other courses, such as Mdianne Glenn Golf Club, Royal Slioch & Maree North Course, and the Spirevanis Country Club, to name a few...).
