A delightful course from Bullpupp2, so pretty to look at and so enjoyable to play, set in Virginia with rolling hills, beautiful plantings, nice vegetation around the lakes and ponds, and with undulating and/or slanted fairways and smooth but, sometimes, small greens to aim for. After starting with two right dogleg par-4 holes, with colorful flowers framing the tee box on the opening hole (with a downhill tee shot and an elevated green), and a blind and downhill tee shot along tall trees on the right side of the 2nd, you will move on to the par-5 3rd hole, uphill all the way, with that little mill next to the water (seen on the illustrating picture) behind the green. One of favorite holes, and one of the most scenic and challenging you will ever see, is the gorgeous par-3 4th, with a blind tee shot downward to a heart-shaped small green, surrounded halfway by the mill with water, coming down from the hilltop, on the right. Then, after two more doglegs and the nice par-3 7th hole, with its elevated green, you will reach the downhill par-4 8th, where you might be tempted to try to reach the green (less than 330 yards away) with your driver, before seeing two bunkers in front (on the left), and a big pond on the right. On the nice left dogleg par-5 9th hole, you will have to hit a blind tee shot over a big mound in the left corner (and avoid landing down into a wide bunker in the middle of the undulating fairway), and follow with a long and uphill approach to the green over three wide puzzle-shaped bunkers in front, in order to admire the nice clubhouse and gazebo behind. You will start the back 9... back the other way, with the pretty right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with fences and colorful flowers framing the tee box as you hit your downhill tee shot, and follow with the nice par-3 11th, with a slightly-uphill tee shot over a narrow fairway, filled with deep rough. The left dogleg par-4 12th is another beautiful hole, with a tee shot flying next to a wide lake (on the left) and landing onto a very narrow patch of fairway and an approach toward the small green over a little creek flowing down into the lake (from a big pond on the right), just like the par-3 13th, quite scenic and tough with a blind tee shot and a green, framed by tall trees, with a wide bunker in front and the wide lake right behind. On the pretty and sharply-to-the-left dogleg par-5 14th hole, you will need to hit two shots over the lake to reach the green, with a big elongated bunker on the right to avoid (midway after your tee shot) and a smaller one (to the right) on your long approach. Then, after the left dogleg par-4 15th hole and the short (less than 320 yards away) par-4 16th, whose green is hard to reach with three wide bunkers in front, you will finish with two nice right doglegs, with the par-4 17th, slightly-uphill, with tall trees (midway in the right corner), a big elongated bunker on the left (next to the lake), and four small bunkers, guarding the green, and the par-5 18th, simply gorgeous and very risky, as you will have to make sure that your downhill and blind tee shot fall short of the elongated island fairway, before hitting your second (or third) shot toward the elevated green, with the lake around. Superbly designed by Bullpupp2, this Bowler’s Mill Country Club is one of his best and you should hurry to download it to find out how pretty Virginia’s countryside can be !
