This is one of ron717's best courses, with a beautiful bay panorama (despiteā¦ the three nuclear plants seen far away), and some challenging holes with quite a few water hazards and some very wide bunkers ! The front 9 starts with the nice dogleg par-5 1st hole, with a lighthouse on the left of the tee box, and a big lake all around the hole and continues with the par-4 3rd, with those nuclear plants facing the tee area, nice trees lined up a few yards apart along both sides of the fairway and a green, slightly to the right. The left dogleg par-4 5th hole is quite unusual, but very pretty, with an elongated sand trap hugging the fairway all the way to the left of the green, whereas the par-4 9th hole is a sharp right dogleg, with a small pond behind the green. On the back 9, I also like the straight par-4 10th hole, with a pond in front of the slopey island green and the left dogleg par-4 12th, quite bare on the right side but with a nice view of the lighthouse, behind the green. The straight par-3 13th hole is quite picturesque, with sand in front of the tee area all the way to the green (with the nuclear plants as a backdrop), and is followed by the right dogleg par-5 14th, with an enormous sand trap hugging the fairway on the right all the way to the green. Then, after the nice left dogleg par-4 15th hole, with that big old fishing boat (seen also on the 1st hoel) on the lake on the left side, and trees on the right of the fairway, you will reach the gorgeous signature hole of this course, the par-3 17th, with its island green linked to the mainland by a small bridge next to the lighthouse : simply superb... Finally, you will finish with the nice, but not too difficult, left dogleg par-5 18th hole, with a nice hotel (?) built with pink stones behind the green. This par 72 is fun to play and nice to watch with those very wide bunkers and lakes, not to mention the well-designed bay. So, if you want to have a nice change of scenery, take your golf bags and head in the direction of Destin to enjoy one of ron717's best designs...
