A very challenging course with that nice Laurel Ridge panorama to gaze at, plenty of doglegs with blind tee shots and (up or down) approaches to the greens, heavily-undulated and/or slanted fairways, and a few well-placed bunkers and water hazards to watch for.
After a gentle right dogleg opening par-4 hole, which will give you time to admire the mountains and lakes around, you will need to hit a blind tee shot to reach the green (hidden behind a small mound) on the par-3 2nd, while making sure to avoid a tiny pond behind it at the bottom of a small hilltop covered with trees.
Then, after the left dogleg par-5 3rd hole, with a long and blind second shot to the green, you will face two right dogleg holes, the par-4 4th, with two blind shots over a heavily-undulated fairway (with a tiny little creek midway across), and the par-4 5th, with two slightly-uphill shots over an undulated fairway.
After the left dogleg par-4 6th hole, where you will need to hit two blind and uphill shots to reach the green, I like the par-3 7th, with a slightly-uphill green and three bunkers around (and its nice panoramic view), the scenic par-4 8th hole, with a blind and downhill tee shot along an elongated lake on the right, and the left dogleg par-4 9th, slightly downhill all the way, with a big pond splitting the fairway midway and a long second shot to reach the green !
The back 9 starts with two short (about 350 yards) par-4 holes : the right dogleg 10th needs a slightly-uphill tee shot over a small elongated pond and another uphill approach shot to the green, whereas on the left dogleg 11th, you will need to hit a blind and downhill tee shot over some trees (on top of some small mounds) before hitting another blind second shot to the elevated green.
Then, after the right dogleg par-4 12th hole, with a downhill tee shot, a slanted fairway (with a big pond below on the far left) and an elevated green, you will move on to two of my favorite holes, the scenic left dogleg par-5 13th, with a steep downhill tee shot over a small lake, landing onto a slanted fairway and a very long uphill shot toward the elevated green (with a few bunkers on the right), and the beautiful par-3 14th hole, with a blind tee shot over a wide pond !
The last three holes are quite challenging : the right dogleg par-4 16th is downhill all the way, with a big bunker across midway and a blind approach to the green (with a few trees on the right), and is followed by another right dogleg par-4 where, after a downhill tee shot, you will need to hit a steep uphill approach to the green, hidden by a small mound in front (on the left), before finishing with the par-4 18th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a heavily-undulated and slanted fairway and an elevated green, with a tiny pond behind and a little windmill near some houses.
With its very hilly landscape, sparsely-planted trees and realistic look, this Royal Slioch & Maree North course is beautiful and tough and is one of Engguy's best designs. So, hurry to pack your golfing bags on your way to Scotland !

Sublime, everything comes together on this one, planting, textures, elevation, green work and that Laurel Ridge pano seems as if it was made for this course.
Since these styles of courses are my favourite i have to vote this my course of the year thus far.

I had the honor and priveledge of testing this course, and I can say that this is his best 08 course. Plays very smooth and challenges you with massive, slopey greens. Planted to perfection, this is a must download. Well done Phil, I think if you must go you are going out on top.
