Welcome to the only course where, even if you are hot, you might not break par (72), with all those volcanoes and lava around ! The first two holes are par-5s (with eagle opportunities on both of them) : the 1st is a dogleg left, with a tee shot over a big pond landing onto a slanted fairway and a blind second shot over another one to try to reach the small green (set not too far from lava coming down from a volcano), whereas the 2nd is straight and short, with a winding fairway and a blind approach toward the green, partially hidden by a small mound. The par-4 3rd hole is pretty but very tough, with a narrow fairway in the middle, set above an elongated and deep lake below (on the right), and with a small crater in the middle, and a long and challenging second shot toward the island green, and is followed by the par-3 4th, back the other way, with a blind and downhill tee shot flying above the lake (and past that small crater, on the right). Then, after the straight par-4 5th hole, with a tee shot flying above a lava field and landing onto a narrow fairway, framed by a small bunker (on the left) and a volcano (on the right), you will face the dogleg left par-4 6th, with an uphill tee shot landing, midway near a small bunker (in the inner corner) and a second shot downward over a tiny creek running across in front of the green. As you stand on the par-3 7th hole, you will see an unusual... lighthouse (on the right), surrounded by lava (!), before hitting your tee shot toward the green, with a deep serpentine bunker in front, before finishing the front 9 with two easier holes (the dogleg left par-4 8th, with a downhill tee shot and uphill approach, and the dogleg right par-5 9th, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a rollercoaster fairway). The back 9 starts with the dogleg left par-4 10th hole, with a downhill tee shot and an uphill approach toward the green, surrounded by sand, and continues with the scenic par-3 11th, with a tee shot over a small lake and with a volcano, filled with lava, not far from the elevated green (on the right)... On the dogleg right par-4 12th hole, you will need to hit an uphill tee shot and a blind approach downward to the green, surrounded with lava in front, before heading for the par-4 13th, with a blind tee shot flying past a big mound (on the right) and landing onto a slanted and undulated fairway (near a bunker across), and a gorgeous approach toward the green, with lava coming down behind it. Finally, after two straight holes (the par-4 14th, with another blind tee shot landing past a big bunker, midway, and an elevated green, halfway surrounded by lava in front, and the par-4 15th, slightly-downhill all the way, and with a small lava field to the right of the green, in front), the very challenging par-3 16th will definitely make you... sweat with its creek forming a loop all along the fairway and around the green, hidden by tall palm trees (and with sand around it). You will complete your round with the pretty but tough dogleg left par-4 17th hole, with a blind tee shot over trees and big bushes and a downhill and blind approach toward the island green, and the wide open and straight par-5 18th, with a downhill tee shot and a slightly-elevated green, reachable on your second shot. In the end, if your clubs don’t melt or you don’t... melt under pressure, this Volcanology course is fun to play, with its very imaginative design (despite some bunkers, water hazards and cart paths, looking too angular and flat), thanks to instigatordj001 !
