A pristine-looking course with (very) smooth and undulated fairways, elevation changes, and quite challenging, especially on the front 9, with a big lake coming into play on quite a few holes, and where you will have to think twice before hitting your shots or putting on some small greens. You will be off to a tough start with the beautiful right dogleg par-4 1st hole where, after hitting a downhill tee shot and avoiding (if you can) the lake (on the right), you will need a precise approach to reach the green (set on its edge), and the pretty par-3 2nd, with its tee shot over the lake and across two cute bridges. You will then walk back the other way on the right dogleg par-4 3rd hole, with a tee shot over those two bridges landing beyond some trees (in the corner), and a tough second shot toward its steeply-elevated green, hard to reach, with more water in front. On the right dogleg par-4 4th hole, your tee shot will fly over a deep ditch and land near a canyon lake, over which you will have to hit your approach to reach the green, before moving on to the very tricky right dogleg par-5 5th, with a narrow fairway along the lake on the right (with trees on its edge), or another hard-to-reach fairway, set below its elevated bank (on the left), and a downhill approach to the green (with a tiny pond on the right to watch for). Then, after the par-3 7th hole, with its downhill slope and little stream running past the green (on the right), you can forget about getting an eagle on the very long (more than 600 yards) right dogleg par-5 8th, with a tough tee shot over a meandering stream crossing the fairway, midway, followed by a blind and uphill tee shot landing downward to the green, impossible to reach on your second shot. You will see the lake again on the left dogleg par-4 9th hole, as your tee shot will fly over trees (in the left corner) before landing next to it (on the right). Thankfully, the back 9 is a little bit “easier”, even though you will still need to hit quite a few tough shots, such as on the right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a tee shot over two small ponds, midway (landing near a big mound, filled with deep rough), and a blind and downhill approach to the green, or on the short left dogleg par-5 11th, with an uphill tee shot and a blind second shot over a square-shaped lake to reach the green above, for an eagle opportunity. Then, after the right dogleg par-4 12th hole, and its narrow fairway and blind approach downward to the green, you will reach my favorite hole, the gorgeous par-3 13th, with a tee shot over a wide lake and a small island green, before facing two right dogleg par-4 holes, the 14th, and the scenier 15th, with a tee shot over a serpentine stream crossing the fairway, midway, and a blind and uphill approach toward the elevated green, with a lake (on the left, flowing down into another lake). Another nice hole is the par-3 16th, with a blind tee shot over a twisted stream coming down and running to the left of the green (not too far in front), whereas on the short left dogleg par-5 17th, you should be able to putt for another eagle after hitting a blind approach to reach the green. You will finish with the right dogleg par-4 18th hole, uphill all the way, with a tee shot along a small hilltop (filled with a few trees, on the right), before firing your last approach toward the green, with a small pond to watch for, behind it. With this Streams of Thought, Engineer designed a very enjoyable course and, if indeed, the texture used for the fairway looks “too good to be true”, the beauty and challenge of this par 72 will make you forget about it, as you will remain concentrated on your... thoughts all the way until the end !
