Pretty and quite challenging : what more do you want ? This par 72 has a beautiful panorama with a small mountain range and its forest in front, and is not easy with slight elevation changes (with, at times, some small trees in the way), and plenty of sharp doglegs, leaving you with quite a few head-scratching shots if you want to finish below par.
After a right dogleg par-4 opening hole, slightly-uphill all the way, I like the straight par-5 3rd, with its pretty view of the small mountains from the tee box (and with a small bunker, right in the middle of the narrow fairway), and the cute par-3 4th, with water halfway around behind the green.
I also “enjoy” the two very tough dogleg holes, the par-4 6th, bending very sharply to the left around trees (and with a blind approach toward the elevated green), and the par-5 7th, bending very sharply to the right, making your tee shot over a few trees quite tricky if you want to shorten the distance to the green, almost impossible to reach on your second shot...
The last two holes are also pretty, with the par-3 8th having small bunkers surrounding its green halfway behind (offering a beautiful panoramic view as a bonus), and the par-4 9th, straight but tough too with a tee shot landing near an elongated lake (on the right) ending halfway around behind the green.
The back 9 starts with the dogleg par-5 10th hole, bending sharply to the left, with a slightly-uphill tee shot landing between two elongated bunkers, midway (and a long and slightly-downhill approach to the green), and is followed by the straight par-4 11th, with a tee shot landing short of a small lake, midway (to the right).
Then, after a few “easier” holes, you will face two left doglegs, the par-5 14th and its elevated green, and the tougher par-4 15th, bending sharply to the left, with an uphill tee shot over the trees to shorten the distance to the green (with an elongated bunker in the corner to watch for).
You will complete your round with my favorite hole, the short and scenic dogleg par-4 17th, bending sharply to the left around a wide lake (partially hidden by trees), which will leave you with a tough approach over (or around) trees to get to the green, before walking over to the straight but very challenging par-4 18th hole, with its twisted fairway, partially hidden by trees and split by an elongated bunker, midway.
On this RedHawk Pass C.C. course, you should not gamble too much on your shots if you want to finish with a decent score : in other words, it's better to play it safe rather than go for broke... If you don't, you might end up seeing vultures circling around your head instead of red hawks !

Nice design, the course looks very picturesque and attractive to the eye, and it plays crisp and smooth. The layout is solid and creative - a difficult one to be sure, no easy holes to speak of - and there's some clever stuff at times. A few holes though are toughened-up just a bit much I thought, particularly with landing areas.. some could've been a bit friendlier and it wouldn't have detracted from the overall challenge. The greens were slicky-tricky yet played fair and were fun. I enjoyed it - it's a very good course and design (and challenge!) but just falls short of being a really *great* one (such as your Cherokee Lakes track). Cheers!

I've just played this course in the rain with gusty winds and normal greens and it doesn't play well in this combination. Tee to fairway was fine but the parameters for the approach irons and putting differ so much from the standard TW08 courses, that a practice round is necessary to work out the variables. The course design is a good test though and the eye candy is superb. Not in my top 20 courses!

Fellow Golfers - Leave the lumber at home - this course is an iron-players dream! With so many holes that require brains instead of brawn, I enjoyed playing this course. and on Dry and Very Dry, the flop shot became the most important when you are at the bottom of an elevated green. A chip or pitch just doesn't get the job done. A great course to keep, and I look forward to playing it in this week's tournament. Great job!

Very, very NICE course. Hard to get it close on very dry greens. Reminds me of Oakmont type greens, when set on very dry. Pretty fair overall, the greens can be tricky, if your on the wrong side of the pin. Overall great course, thanks for all the hard work!

I have to say that this is one of the best looking mountain courses for 08. An excellent design where proper approach shot placement is a must if you are going to post a good score. I have played quite a few courses in the Sierra Nevadas, and this one certainly fits the bill as being one of those in that area. One little thing worth mentioning is that a little more bunker edging work would have been nice. Also, because I am a real water fanatic, a creek winding through the course would have made an already great design a true standout. Thank you for this one Foxie, this one is a real gem.
