Using only 3 libraries, this Outpost course looks nice with its panoramic view of the valley and its huge rocks, and its wide and elongated shallow bunkers, scattered all along the rolling fairways and around the (often) elevated greens. But the first few holes on the front 9 start in a similar fashion, with blind and slightly-downhill tee shots (left dogleg par-4 1st, par-4 2nd, par-3 3rd, facing big rocks, left dogleg par-4 4th, with big rocks along the fairway, and the right dogleg par-4 5th, similar to the 2nd, but with ruins, on the left side behind the green), leaving you with an impression of “déjà-vu”. The scenery, then, changes a little bit with a wider and more open view of the valley on the left dogleg par-5 6th hole, with trees (on the left) and big rocks (midway, on the right), and the short par-4 7th, with a steeper downhill tee shot landing near more shallow bunkers, and a green, slightly to the left. On the par-4 8th hole, you will have to hit your approach over a serpentine path to reach the green, while making sure to avoid a large elongated lake behind, before moving on to the left dogleg par-4 9th, with a fairway set between big rocks (on the left, with a wide bunker behind) and a lake (midway, on the right), and a slightly-elevated green, surrounded halfway by more huge rocks. The back 9 is less challenging with plenty of straight holes (par-3 10th, par-5 12th, par-4 14th, par-4 15th), with the nicest one being the... straight par-5 16th, with trees all along the fairway (on the far left) where, after hitting a tee shot over a serpentine path crossing the fairway, midway, you will have to aim your blind approach toward its slightly-elevated green. Then, after the tricky par-3 17th hole, with a big slope in front of its slightly-elevated green, you will complete your round with the nice right dogleg par-4 18th, slightly uphill all the way and with an elongated bunker, midway (on the right), and a big mansion with a tiny pond on the right (and “cute” small lampposts around the path, not too far from the green). Overall, if this par 72 plays smoothly, I don’t think it is one of M.G.A. Hover’s best with plenty of similar holes and a texture used for the rocks, looking a little bit odd (even though it is hard to find one that looks natural). But, despite its “easy” look, your biggest challenge will be to avoid all those shallow bunkers spread everywhere, which is what I think TinCup23 meant to say in his comments...
