A delightful fantasy course, based on a real one, with holes set above a couple of wide lakes at the bottom of small hills, offering spectacular panoramic views, and challenging (despite having a few short holes) with plenty of undulating and/or slanted fairways between (and around) hills, steep elevation changes, resulting in a lot of blind shots to reach quite a few hidden greens. You will start this par 72 with a blind (and steeply) downhill tee shot on the par-4 1st hole, with a superb panoramic view of the valley behind the green, before hitting an uphill tee shot to reach the green of the par-3 2nd, quite scenic too. Three dogleg holes follow : the par-4 3rd is uphill all the way, with a tee shot over part of a wide lake landing beyond a small hill in the corner of the undulating fairway, and a steeply-elevated and undulating green, unlike the par-5 4th, which bends to the left, where you will have to avoid (with your blind and steeply-downhill tee shot) deep rough splitting the fairway midway, if you want to have a decent chance to reach the green (guarded by four small bunkers) with your approach. As for the par-5 5th hole, it is a right dogleg, with an uphill tee shot downward a sloped fairway (on top of a small hill), and a long shot toward the elevated green. The short par-4 6th is another beautiful hole, with a steeply-downhill green potentially reachable from the tee box if you can manage to avoid the small hill (and trees), partially hiding it on the left, and three bunkers in front, on the right. Then, after the steeply-uphill par-3 7th hole, and its big slopes around the green, you will head for the short down-and-up par-4 8th, whose green is hard to reach, with a big bunker in front and a small pond behind. The scenic left dogleg par-4 9th hole is one of my favorites, with a blind and uphill tee shot landing downward, not too far from a small elongated lake, over which you will have to hit your approach shot to reach the undulating green. A gorgeous panoramic view awaits you as you stand ready to tee off on the long and downhill left dogleg par-5 10th hole, with a winding, undulating fairway overlooking the valley, and requiring a blind second shot over trees on a small hilltop (on the left) to reach the green, before moving on to the right dogleg par-4 11th, slightly-uphill all the way, with a slanted fairway and deep rough below on the right. Then, after taking a “break” on the “easy” par-3 12th hole, you will reach the signature hole, the par-4 13th, whose downhill green is potentially reachable from the tee box, provided you can avoid the tall grass on the big slope (on the right) and land your ball on the green, set on a big mound, with the lake further down on the left. The par-5 14th hole is tough too, with two blind shots, steeply uphill, then downward to the green, hidden by trees on a hilltop (on the left) and set above the lake (on the right), and is followed by the par-4 15th, straight but quite pretty, with a tee shot over a lake landing downward onto a narrow fairway, hugging the lake on the left (and with a small hill on the right). If you are in a gambling mood, then you will love the short right dogleg par-4 16th hole, whose elevated green is hidden behind trees on a hilltop, leaving you with a choice of either “going for broke” or play it safe with a tee shot safely on the left, not far from a wide lake, before finishing with two easier holes, the par-3 17th, with a tee shot over a lake and a green, with a little slope, and the steeply uphill par-4 18th hole. With its wide-open look, beautiful plantings and spectacular rollercoaster holes, you will either feel like Clark Kent (alias Superman) or... over the hill, after completing this well-designed Clark's Hill course !
