A pretty, hilly and quite challenging course, with plenty of doglegs, blind shots, elevation changes and water hazards to deal with, and where you will have to think twice before hitting some of your approach shots. This par 72 starts with two dogleg par-4 holes, with the 1st bending sharply to the right along a tree-lined fairway, followed by the short 2nd, tough with its narrow fairway, set between two hills, with trees on the big rocky one (on the left), blocking the view of the green, leaving you with no choice but to hit your blind tee shot close to a small bunker at the bottom of the hill (on the right). After a couple of second shots over small streams on the par-5 3rd and par-4 4th holes, another dogleg hole awaits you on the left par-4 5th, with a blind tee shot landing.... downward onto the fairway, and a green, flanked by two big bunkers. Then, after the right dogleg par-5 8th hole, with its fairway, split by deep rough, halfway, you will move on to my favorite hole, the scenic par-3 9th, with a tee shot over a big lake and a flag, pretty close to the water. The back 9 is quite scenic and tough, as you will find out with the par-4 10th hole, and its beautiful view of the valley (way below as you reach the green), and the left dogleg par-5 12th, with more trees on a hilltop (on the left) and a big serpentine river flowing along the fairway on the right and then past the green. You will then face three (!) par-3 holes in a row : on the 13th, the green is set on a small rocky plateau, above a big stream on the right, unlike on the 14th hole, where the green is on the other side of a wide lake, and on the 15th, where the green is steeply uphill with a beautiful panoramic view of the valley as you reach it. Two of the last three holes are par-5s : on the right dogleg 16th, you will need to hit your tee shot over a small canyon and a stream (flowing down from the lake), downward to the undulating and sloped fairway, before firing your blind approach toward the elevated green, hidden by trees (and with an elongated bunker in front), whereas, on the beautiful left dogleg 18th hole, your tee shot will land downward a winding fairway (next to a big lake midway, on the right), leaving you with a long second shot toward the undulating green, guarded in front by a small mound, with a bunker below, on the left... With nice plantings and some colorful trees, this Timber Wells course will offer you a steep challenge with its rollercoaster layout, thanks to krbushee's "Wells" done designing work !
