Awesome design, this one looks terrific even today on '08 - so it must have been a true gem back in the '06 days. The course has a nicely varied layout with decent challenge and plenty of good holes, it plays smooth and looks beaut. An excellent piece of work, as are each of Okeyesten's small bag of designs. A pleasure to play, cheers!

Hawaii is a mixed 'PINOCCHIO' venue, ironically (or is it 'moronically?) for golf courses. Based on my experience of watching pros golf in Hawaii on T.V. ...... as well as having golfed 7 or 8 golf courses in Hawaii via PC golf games ..... in my opinion, some Hawaiian courses are spectacular -in terms of scenery and/or course design- and others just 'mediocre.'
At the beginning of every year, the "Kapalua Plantation course" on the north side of Maui, hosts the first PGA tour event. The course design as well as the ocean vistas are spectacular and truly 'Hawaiian-esque': EXTREME elevation change, MUCH variety in course layout from hole to hole, EXTREME undulation in fairways and greens. The 'Sony Open' in Oahu hosts the 2nd PGA tour event of every season. It sharply contrasts Kapalua Plantation: THIS course is quite flat, most holes seem fairly similar to each other, etc.
Having golfed the "Kapolei" golf course for the first time ever in TW PGA 06, this golf course to me seems somewhat 'underwhelming' and the design seems very 'generic.' It seems like a 'fine' golf course, per se -the palm trees and lakes are 'eye candy'.......however this 'eye candy' is offset by 'ear salt': The constant and extremely loud chirping of a great variety of 'audubon specimens' made golfing this course almost 'torturous.' The actual course design is simply..... 'okay'.....but it just lacks any personality. For me Kapolei isn't quite a 'keeper.'
Off the record, I almost.....almost.....beat a 'Big Jim Taylor' -who was in his prime- in head-to-head stroke competition on Kapolei. What finally 'did me in' (as Bruce Lee would say) was the fact that my back nine was pure 'par excellence'....or shall I say 'par mediocrotis': I shot par on holes 10-17....it wasn't until hole number 18 that I FINALLY shot another birdie, too little too late, for a very respectable -3 under par round. Big Jim Taylor ended up getting a 'little hot' on the back nine and ended up shooting -4. We both played alongside a very.......*ahem*.....'strange' half-human half-horse..................... creature.......*ahem*......of sorts.......*ahem*.....with 'orange hair' who shot like a 50 over par or so........*ahem*........

A splendid design effort with nice real touches. I especially liked the golf bags. This is as real as Hawaii gets, and compliments Kapalua and Princeville nicely
