Beautiful lush vegetation, nice villas and... cute little beach umbrellas as tee markers : sounds familiar, doesn’t it ? Well, as it turns out, this par 72 is another pretty course from rlslay (alias Rejects) and, even though it is not overly difficult, it is, nevertheless, very enjoyable, especially the front 9, more challenging than on the way back. As I stood on the tee box of the dogleg right par-4 1st hole, I could not help but notice the pretty and small stone walls on both sides before hitting my first shot along the palm tree-lined fairway, just like on the dogleg left par-5 2nd, with a big bunker, midway in the inner corner, and with a big pond to the left of the sloping green, making your approach a little bit tougher if you want to putt for an eagle. Then, after the dogleg right par-4 3rd hole, along a lake (on the left) ending midway and with another sloping green, I enjoyed the straight par-4 5th, along big and beautiful villas (on the left), and the nice par-3 6th, with a tee shot over a small lake in front of the green. But my favorite holes are the tricky par-4 8th, looking straight but with a fairway bending sharply to the left, midway, with bunkers on both sides, and with an elongated lake (on the right) and a tiny stream further up in front of the green (on the right) to watch for, and the pretty dogleg right par-5 9th, quite challenging, especially as you approach the green, with a tough decision to make if you want to reach it on your second shot with a big elongated lake, right in front, and an elongated waste area, filled with high weeds, next to it (on the left). The back 9 is nice andt easier, but beware of the dogleg right par-4 11th hole, with a big ditch, filled with a little bit of water over which you will have to hit your approach to reach the green, the dogleg left par-5 12th, uphill all the way and with a blind second shot toward the green, guarded by a huge and wide bunker in front (on the left) and four smaller ones behind, and the nice dogleg right par-4 13th, downhill all the way but with two blind shots to get to the green. You will complete your round with four straight holes (short par-4 14th, slightly-downhill par-4 15th, par-4 16th, with a very long second shot flying over a small river crossing the fairway not too far from the green, and the par-3 17th), before having a last eagle opportunity on the dogleg right par-5 18th hole. Overall, this Noami Island GC 2012 course is very appealing visually and if you can manage to avoid all the deep rough around and the few water hazards on the front 9, you should finish below par before heading for a well-deserved swim in the ocean nearby, thanks to... Reject's vivid imagination !

Well, in typical "rejects" style, it is a beautiful course, and if played with wind a course where it is tough to hit the fairways and greens, but overall very fair. Even on average the rough is brutal if you get into the 3rd cut. Greens are fast on dry, hate to play them on very dry! Overall a keeper for sure, and if Noami Island was in the Hawaiian Islands I'd add it to my Hawaii Vacation Courses! Thanks, Rob. As always.
