Another well-designed and updated version which, hopefully, cost less than $23 million to MSR Golf to create, very pretty to look at with nice wooded and/or green hills far away, pristine two-tone fairways, and with beautiful and strategically-placed bunkers to... avoid if you can ! While this par 72 is not overly difficult, with plenty of wide undulating or rollercoaster fairways, getting to the greens, however, requires accuracy, not to mention good putting as some have gentle slopes or ridges to deal with. Thankfully, you will start your round with a... Christmas (!) gift, as the par-5 1st hole, slightly uphill, is straight, with a fairway along trees and a road behind (on the left), and quite short (less than 500 yards), offering you a great eagle opportunity to start on a high note, before facing the dogleg left par-4 2nd, with a tee shot over a big bush landing down onto an undulating fairway and with an approach over a big sandy area, filled with deep rough, across the fairway, to reach the green. The next two holes are my favorites on the front 9 : if the par-4 3rd is a nice dogleg left, with a tee shot landing down onto a rollercoaster fairway and a downhill approach over a small creek, crossing the fairway and flowing into a big lake (on the far left), to get to the green, the par-3 4th is simply gorgeous with a tee shot over a small lake (with a fountain in it) landing onto a green, real close to the grandstands right behind. Then, after the straight par-4 5th hole, with its blind and uphill tee shot landing down, past deep rough (with a little bit of sand), diagonally the middle of the fairway, and an uphill approach to the elevated and sloping green, guarded by three big bunkers in front, and the par-4 6th, requiring another blind tee shot, you will have another eagle shot on the dogleg right par-5 7th, slightly-uphill all the way and with a road, behind the green. The back 9 is somewhat easier but that does not mean that it’s “a walk in the park”, as you will have to be careful with the par-3 12th hole, uphill and with a bunker in front looking like a “sun-up egg”, with deep rough in the middle, and a little ridge around the cup, and/or the dogleg right par-4 13th, with a tee shot flying above a creek, crossing the fairway diagonally, and an elevated green, with an elongated bunker (with high rough in the middle) on the right side. Finally, after three “easier” holes (dogleg left par-4 14th, uphill all the way and with a blind approach to the green, straight par-4 15th, with a blind and uphill tee shot landing steeply... down onto an undulating fairway and an elevated green, with a tiny creek in front, and the straight par-3 16th, with four bunkers around the green - , and on the sides), the last two dogleg left par-5 holes will definitely test your skills. The 17th hole, uphill all the way, is quite scenic, with a big sandy area (filled with deep rough) across the fairway, two-thirds of the way, and two wide bunkers in front guarding the elevated green, (making your second shot quite risky if you want to get an eagle attempt), just like the superb 18th, with a downhill tee shot landing down near an elongated lake (on the left) – with a fountain in it, over which you will have to hit your uphill approach to get to the elevated green before heading for the beautiful clubhouse for a well-deserved rest ! Once again, MSR Golf came up with a beautiful rendition of a real course, both visually and playing-wise, but you should be able to finish below par, especially with three short par-5 holes to “play with” on this Baltusrol GC Lower 2025 course before, maybe, waiting for the Upper version if MSR Golf chooses to design it !
