Quietly, you did it again ! What a spectacular course from the 1st tee all the way to the 18th green : this par 72 is an incredible visual treat that will make you want to play golf only at night, from now on... With those gorgeous Petronas Towers to gaze at and its beautiful skyline all around, its immaculate fairways and greens, this Kuala Lumpur International “fantasy” course is a pure delight to play, as you will find out right from the start with the par-4 1st hole before heading through a... tunnel, set on the right side of the green. If the par-4 2nd hole runs along a tree-lined fairway (with skyscrapers to the right), and has a downhill green, slightly to the left, and is followed by a nice par-3 3rd, you will be in for a surprise as you move on to the dogleg left par-4 4th, with its undulating fairway and its slightly-uphill green, not too far from the... Dior building ("Dior, j’adore" !). Then, after the par-3 5th hole, and its green, surrounded by plenty of trees behind, the dogleg right par-5 6th is simply superb, with its fairway hugging a small river (on the right) and its elevated green, hard to reach on your second shot, with big bunkers in front to “welcome” your risky approach. As for the last three holes, they are all doglegs : the par-4 7th turns to the left, with a downhill tee shot and an uphill approach, unlike the par-4 8th, bending to the right, and with a fairway quite narrow in the middle, with bunkers (on the left), and the par-5 9th, bending sharply to the right, along plenty of trees, and with bunkers on both sides, midway, making your tee shot crucial if you want to reach its elevated green on your uphill approach. Another dogleg right par-5 hole, the 10th, awaits you as you start coming home, with more bunkers and an isolated tree, right in the inner corner, midway, making your tee shot tricky, not to mention your approach, quite long. The scenery then changes with water coming into play on the pretty dogleg left par-4 11th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing short of an elongated lake, flowing in front of the green, and is followed by the dogleg left par-4 12th, slightly uphill all the way and with more bunkers to watch for (around the inner corner and in front of the green). The next four holes offer different challenges, starting with the dogleg right par-4 13th, with a downhill tee shot landing near a couple of trees in the middle of the fairway and a green, surrounded by trees in a horseshoe-shape, and continuing with the straight par-4 14th, and its narrow fairway and elevated green. But the best has yet to come, after the cute par-3 15th hole, with bunkers in front of the green and a smaller one, behind, and the par-4 16th, straight and narrow again, especially midway, with trees (on the left) an three wide bunkers (lined up on the right)... As you stand on the par-3 17th hole, you can’t help but be in awe at the spectacular postcard panorama of the lake in front of the green, with the superb view of the Petronas Towers and the buildings behind, before walking over to the par-5 18th, along a lake (on the right) and with its island green, simply... out of this world, with that big Suria KLCC shopping mall behind ! Needless to say, this Kuala Lumpur International course, while not overly difficult, is a pure gem, and an incredible experience, visually and playing-wise. So much so, that after enjoying Quietly’s other great courses, I kept looking for the moon and moving cars/trucks in “the bustling heart of downtown”. But all I saw, instead, was a star and his name is Quietly ! Thank you so much for all your hard work and… research...
