Just finished playing this Cactus City GC course and I must say that I am quite puzzled, after missing so many birdie putts on the front 9 (ended up at even par) and scoring so many coming back (final scorecard : 63 !). Was it because I kept looking for cacti and did not see any... anywhere (just like golfingod pointed out), or was it because I misjudged the gentle slopes on all those wide greens, especially on the first 7 consecutive par-4 holes ? Anyway, whatever the reasons, the end result is that this par 70 is somewhat different that most of rlslay’s courses, despite its nice panorama of small rocky mountains, and its coastal city and ocean, seen, mostly, on the back 9. After a pleasant dogleg par-4 opening hole, with a blind and downhill approach to the green, followed by a par-4 2nd, with a fairway, sloping from right to left, midway, I first saw the city on the dogleg left par-4 5th, but it was not until the pretty dogleg par-5 9th hole, that I really got challenged, with a blind tee shot flying through a small gap between trees and landing steeply downhill before hitting an uphill approach to an elevated green. The scenery then changes with a view of the city and the ocean on the dogleg right par-10th hole, and its elevated green, just like on the dogleg left par-5 12th, where you will have to hit a precise tee shot to avoid all the bunkers, spread midway (in the middle, on the left and to the right), before facing later on the nice dogleg right par-4 16th, with a tee shot landing near an elongated lake, midway, followed by a second shot toward an elevated green. In the end, even though this Cactus City GC course plays smoothly, and has some nice plantings, undulating fairways and a few tough greens, you keep asking yourself if rlslay’s gardeners ran away with all the cacti (or cactuses – both versions being correct !), instead of concentrating on your shots !

Cactus grows in the desert, so I'm thinking a desert course - lots of bare hills in the panorama on the front nine, but the course sure does have lush rough! Must suck up a ton or pumped water. Then you hit the turn, and there is a beautiful city, and a coastline. Must be California! The last few holes finish in the hills, and I'm feeling like I'm doing a poor imitation of my bud Holein1, so that's that! Enjoyed the course, played very fair, thanks rlslay
