On this par 72, you really see the beautiful ocean on almost every hole, one way or the other, making you feel more like diving into it than playing golf, despite its pretty landscape, elevation changes, strategically-placed bunkers and a few tricky greens. The par-5 1st hole faces the ocean and is very pretty with its downhill view above a huge lake, midway on the right, and is very different from the straight par-4 2nd, next to a road (along on the right) and with a blind and downhill tee shot over trees, landing onto an undulating fairway, with plenty of bunkers lined up on both sides. Another beautiful panoramic view of the ocean awaits you on the par-3 3rd hole, with its green set at the tip of a small coastline, just like the other par-3, the very short (around 115 yards) 7th, with a steeply-downhill tee shot landing onto a green, next to the ocean, and the short (around 330 yards) and straight par-4 9th, with its green set above a small cliff. Then, after the nice par-3 10th hole, with a blind and downhill tee shot toward the green, surrounded by four bunkers, the next few holes are more wide open, but not that easy as you will find out with the two dogleg right par-4 holes, the 11th, uphill all the way and with a blind approach to a steeply-elevated green, and the 12th, downhill all the way and above (and along) the coast (on the right). Three par-5 holes in a row follow, starting with the dogleg 14th, bending sharply to the right, with no ocean view but with an elevated green, tough to reach on your second shot, and continuing with the dogleg right 15th, slightly downhill, but with a narrow fairway and a risky approach to an undulating and small green (with the ocean further behind) for a potential eagle, and the pretty dogleg left 16th, with a fairway hugging the ocean below, and a green, again hard to reach on your second shot. As if you did not have enough challenges, the last two holes are not only nice, they are also a little bit scary, with the par-3 17th, above the coastline (on the right), and the dogleg right par-4 18th, needing an uphill tee shot landing short of a cliff over which you will have to hit your final approach to reach the green. If this OceanView GC course is pretty to look at, it is not a “walk in the park” as you will have to be patient and hit precise shots to avoid landing in the water. But if you can manage to birdie all four par-5 holes, you might be able to celebrate with a nice ocean swim afterwards...
