A well-designed course, with beautiful two-tone fairways, winding creeks, small elevation changes, and with a challenging front 9, with more water to deal with than on your way back. After an opening dogleg right par-4 hole, with a tee shot over a small creek, crossing the fairway, and an elevated green, I liked the straight par-4 2nd, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow fairway, short of a creek, crossing the fairway, and a blind and uphill approach to the green. Then, after the par-3 3rd hole, with a tee shot over deep rough and a sloping green, set on a small plateau, and the dogleg left par-4 4th, with a fairway, sloping from right to left and with bunkers in front and to the sides of the slightly-downhill green, the next three holes are quite challenging. The 5th hole is a par-3, with a creek flowing in front of the elevated green, and is followed by the dogleg right par-4 6th, with a slightly-downhill tee shot flying above a creek, crossing the fairway diagonally, and a blind approach to the downhill green, and the dogleg left par-5 7th, with an uphill tee shot landing down onto a fairway (sloping from right to left) - and short of deep rough splitting it in the middle -, and a downhill green, reachable after a long second shot. If the back 9 starts with the scenic par-3 10th hole, along the road and with a parking lot and the clubhouse (on the left) and a blind tee shot over deep rough, a cart path and bushes to reach the green, the par-4 11th is nice too, with a tee shot over a creek crossing the fairway diagonally and its elevated green. As for the next few holes, they are mostly uphill (par-5 12th, dogleg right par-4 13th, with a blind approach... downward to the green, par-4 14th, with nine (!) bunkers in front of the green), just like the par-3 15th, with a blind tee shot over... spectators (!), standing in high rough, landing onto an elevated green. The last three holes are left doglegs, with the par-4 18th, being the nicest with a blind and uphill tee shot landing down onto an undulating fairway, followed by a nice approach over a creek, flowing diagonally across the fairway, not too far from the green, partially hidden by trees (on the right), and with a nice clubhouse behind. With this Philadelphia Cricket Club, MSR Golf came up with another eye-pleasing course (with small bridges and a big clubhouse), but you will have to putt well if you want to finish below par, as most of the greens have slopes near the cups to keep you from being overconfident while playing on this par 70.
