Another eye-pleasing course, with beautiful views of the ocean and small homes set around small gentle hills, and very enjoyable to play with plenty of water hazards and strategically-placed bunkers to watch for. On the front 9, I like the dogleg left par-4 3rd hole, with the ocean facing you as you tee off and a second shot over part of a wide lake to reach the green, the par-3 4th, with a tee shot over a small lake to get to the green, and the dogleg par-5 5th, bending sharply to the left around an elongated lake, and with a green, hard to reach on your second shot, as it is guarded by deep rough below. The dogleg par-5 8th hole, bending sharply to the right, is also worth mentioning with five bunkers (left and right) around the corner, leaving you with a very long second shot toward the green, with two bunkers (left and right), guarding its entrance, just like the dogleg right par-4 9th, with a small lake in the inner corner, midway, and another big bunker in front of the green to watch for. Coming back, you will face some nice holes too, starting with the dogleg right par-4 10th, with a tee shot over an elongated lake landing near another elongated lake (on the left), and continuing with the dogleg right par-5 11th, with a blind and slightly-uphill tee shot landing between a big lake (on the right) and 3 bunkers (on the left), and a long and another blind second shot toward the green, hidden by small trees (in front, on the right) and with two deep bunkers (on the left) ready to welcome your errant shot. Six more bunkers surround the par-3 12th hole, and its slightly-uphill green, before moving later on to the long and straight par-5 15th, downhill all the way and quite risky if you want to try to reach the green in two shots, as a wide and deep bunker might prevent you from putting for an eagle if you gamble too much. Last, but not least, you will finish with the nice dogleg right par-4 18th hole, with more deep rough, midway (on the left), and an elongated lake (on the right) ending in front of the green. With quite a few narrow fairways and some challenging shots to reach the greens, this par 73 is not that easy but, if you are patient enough and manage to avoid using your bucket and spade or get your feet wet, then you should finish “bajo” par (under par in Spanish) on this well-designed Baja GC 2018 !
