This par 72 plays smoothly and is nice to look at, but if I did not see that it was designed by rlslay, I would not have guessed it, as it does not have plenty of vegetation (rows of bushes, small trees, colorful flowers, etc.), like a lot of his other courses, maybe because it was created many years ago (even though he just released it a few months ago). Nevertheless, this wide open course, set around the ocean and with a few cliffs, seen far away, is still worth playing and is quite challenging, especially on the front 9, with the nice par-3 3rd hole, with a u-shaped small lake in front of a sloping green, set in the middle, and the pretty dogleg left par-5 4th, with a tee shot flying above two lakes, side by side (and through trees), and a green, reachable on your second shot, but with four wide bunkers around to watch for. Other noteworthy holes are the wide open dogleg left par-4 6th, downhill all the way, and with a creek winding its way in front of the green, the par-3 7th, with an elongated lake next to a slanted green (on the left), and the dogleg right par-5 8th, with a tee shot flying twice over a winding creek and with a potential eagle, as the green, surrounded by three bunkers, can be reached on your second shot. The back 9 is less difficult, except for the long (around 600 yards) and wide open dogleg left par-5 11th hole, with a tough approach to the green, set next to a big elongated lake (on the left), and the pretty par-3 12th, with the green set at the tip of a big lake. Water also comes into play on the nice dogleg right par-5 15th hole, with a long approach to the green, set between bunkers (on the left) and a big lake (on the right), and the "cute" par-3 16th, with a tee shot over another lake. Overall, despite its more “traditional” look, this Port Rois Country Club, with its nice lakes often filled with reeds, is fun to watch and play, but beware of the mostly wide greens, as there are quite a few slopes around, unless you have some... Irish luck (maybe in reference to the Irish Port Rois logo seen on the scoreboard ?).
