If you just finished playing The BlackAdder GC The Bay course (released the same day as this Jungle version), you may have a feeling of “déjà-vu” on a few holes, as Neil Munro used the same base for his design, but this par 70 is nicer than his links one, with beautiful plantings (reeds, shrubs, flowers, small palm trees), and a tougher front 9 with lakes and streams replacing the ocean. After a relatively easy opening dogleg right par-4 hole, with a tree-lined fairway, you will face four nice holes, starting with the pretty but very tough dogleg right par-5 2nd, with tall grass, splitting the fairway, diagonally midway, making you think twice before you hit your tee shot, and with a green, next to a lake (to the right and behind), and continuing with the straight par-4 3rd, with a very narrow tree-lined fairway, split midway by a stream, and with a downhill approach to the green, surrounded by bunkers in a horseshoe shape. Then, after the pretty par-3 4th hole, with a blind tee shot over a swampy area downward to the green, you will move on to the scenic and challenging dogleg left par-4 5th, where you will have to decide if you want to risk hitting your tee shot over a serpentine creek twice in order to land on the left side of the fairway (or play it safe and land past the water once, on the right side), before seeing your second shot fly over the creek again to reach the green, surrounded by bunkers. After taking a break on the dogleg left par-4 6th hole, with no water in sight, but with three small deep bunkers, next to each other, midway, and a blind approach to the green, you will enjoy the pretty wide open par-3 7th, with a big lake (on the left) and a wide bunker in front of the green, before finishing with two dogleg left par-4 holes (the 8th, with a small lake, on the left, flowing into a stream and winding its way across the fairway, midway, and over which you will have to hit your second shot, and the easier 9th). Water awaits you on the par-4 10th hole, with a narrow fairway and a bunker, midway in the outer corner (next to a big lake, on the left) and a short uphill approach toward the slanted green (to the right), and the pretty par-3 11th, with a tee shot over a wide lake, before heading for the dogleg left par-4 12th, with a tee shot landing short of a couple of bunkers in front of a mound, midway across, and a blind second shot in the direction of a wide green. Another noteworthy hole is the scenic dogleg left par-4 13th, with a tee shot over a little part of a lake and a tough approach to the green, with a wide sandy area, filled with some deep rough and a couple of small palm trees in front. Three "easier" holes follow, with the straight par-4 14th, and its blind second shot over a small mound to get to the green (slightly to the right), the par-3 15th, and the straight but tricky par-4 16th, with trees, partially blocking the view (on the left) of the green guarded by bunkers, before finishing with two pretty, but very challenging, dogleg right holes : the par-4 17th has a narrow tree-lined and undulating fairway, split lengthwise in the middle by two elongated bunkers, and a second shot downward to the green, whereas the par-5 18th has water flowing out from a small lake, splitting the fairway across, midway, leaving you with a long second shot toward the wide green, set next to a nice clubhouse and the Dundee War Memorial... With this par 70 (and not 72 !), this Jungle course will definitely test your patience as you will have to think twice before hitting some of your shots to avoid water hazards. But, in the end, if you can concentrate, despite all those sounds around, you should master this nicely-designed BlackAdder course by Neil Munro, and feel like the king of the jungle !
