A nice links course, with a few challenging and head-scratching shots to reach the greens, guarded by some well-placed bunkers, and with a few putts, hard to read. After the dogleg right par-4 opening hole, along the ocean (on the left), and its slightly-elevated green, I like the dogleg right par-5 2nd, with a stream running across the fairway, midway, making your club selection crucial, if you want to try to reach its elevated green on your second shot... unless you decide to play your tee shot safely. Then, after the straight, but very narrow par-4 3rd hole, with a stream running across the fairway, midway, and a blind approach downward to the green, and the par-3 4th, with a blind tee shot over a small mound in front of the green (on the left), with five bunkers around it, you will face the dogleg left par-4 5th, quitter tricky with a stream winding its way across the fairway, midway, making you think twice about where to land your tee shot, in order to leave you with a short and blind approach to the green. On the dogleg left par-4 6th hole, you will have to decide if you want to gamble and try to hit your tee shot past three pot bunkers, midway across the fairway, before enjoying the par-3 7th, with an elongated bunker across in front of the slightly-elevated green, and the nice dogleg left par-4 8th, with a stream flowing along (on the left) and crossing the fairway, two-thirds of the way, and over which you will have to hit your approach to reach the green. Last, but not least, you will have another eagle chance on the dogleg left par-5 9th hole, with its undulated fairway and its green, reachable on your second shot. Two challenging holes await you as your start coming home, with the very short par-4 10th (around 325 yards) and its narrow fairway and steeply-elevated and slanted green (on the far right), hard to reach with your driver (as it is partially hidden by a big mound) and quite tricky with the ball speeding up near the cup (!), and the scenic par-3 11th, with a tee shot over a serpentine beach. Fortunately, the dogleg left par-5 12th hole will offer you another shot at an eagle, if you can land your tee shot, short of two big bunkers set in front of a mound across the fairway, midway, and reach the green on a long and blind second shot, before moving on to the pretty par-4 13th, slightly-downhill all the way and with a huge sandy area, with patches of tall grass, midway, and ending in front of the green (to the left). After enjoying a “break” with two straight holes (par-4 14th, par-3 15th), you will finish with three nice holes : the par-4 16th is quite short, with a layout in the shape of a question mark, and a green at the tip, potentially reachable from the tee box (but tough as it is protected by two wide bunkers in front), and is followed by the dogleg right holes, the par-4 17th, along a small wall (with trees behind) on the left, and the pretty par-5 18th, with a stream across the fairway, midway, making your tee shot quite risky if you want to land your ball over it, and with two elongated bunkers across the fairway, a little bit apart, not too far from the green. With its small streams splitting the fairways, midway, on quite a few holes, this par 72 will keep you on your toes, but if you make the right decisions off the tee box, and hit a few tough putts (watch out for that 10th hole !), you should enjoy this Blackadder Bay Course and its original clubhouse and its Dundee War Memorial (on the left), a trademark often seen of Neil Munro’s courses...
