Pretty, with its very sharp-looking small rocky mountains, all around, this par 72 is not too difficult with just a few well-placed bunkers and/or lakes to deal with, and all par-5 holes, offering eagle opportunities.
After two “mostly” straight holes (a par-5 1st, with a lake ending to the left side of the green, and a par-4 2nd), I like the nice par-3 3rd, with a small lake in front of the green, and the beautiful dogleg left par-5 4th, with a tee shot flying above two lakes, side by side, and a long second shot to reach the green.
Two dogleg left par-4 holes follow, with the 5th, being nicer with its downhill tee shot landing onto a very narrow tree-lined fairway and its slightly-elevated green, before moving on to the par-3 7th, with a small lake to the left, behind the green, and the scenic dogleg right par-5 8th, with a tee shot flying over a serpentine stream twice, and an uphill approach to reach the elevated green.
On the back 9, water comes into play on three holes, the par-3 12th, with a tee shot over a big lake landing onto the green (set near its tip), the par-3 16th, with a tee shot over a boomerang-shaped lake, and the nice dogleg right par-5 18th, with a downhill tee shot and a delicate approach to the green, set next to a lake (on the right), and with a little bit of more water behind.
If this Southern Star GC 2016 course is nicely done and plays smoothly, you should be able to finish with a low scorecard despite its undulating fairways and greens, unlike some other rlslay’s designs previously released...
