Another great course from rlslay, with nice rolling mountains and a big lake, far away, as a backdrop, plenty of downhill holes with undulated fairways, and some challenging approaches toward the greens over water hazards and/or well-placed bunkers.
Right off the bat, you will have your hands full with the very pretty and challenging dogleg right par-4 1st hole, downhill all the way, with a tee shot flying over a lake and landing onto an undulated fairway, midway, and a second shot over another big lake to reach the green, guarded by an elongated bunker in front.
Another dogleg, bending sharply to the right, awaits you with the par-4 2nd hole, with a tough approach over a small river and a big sandy area further (in front of the green) but, thankfully, you should be able to putt for an eagle on the straight and downhill par-5 3rd, if you can avoid the wide bunker, on the left side of the green.
After a few easier downhill holes (par-3 4th, par-4 5th, dogleg right par-4 6th, par-3 7th), you will face the very long (more than 600 yards) dogleg right par-5 8th, where you will have to hit your tee shot over a river crossing the fairway, while making sure to avoid large bunkers (midway, on the right), and more wide ones spread along near (and around) the green, hard to reach on your second shot, unlike on the dogleg right par-4 9th, less challenging despite a couple of big bunkers on both sides of the fairway, midway.
The back 9 has some nice holes too, starting with the dogleg right par-4 10th, downhill again, with a narrow fairway and a second shot over a lake.
Then, after the par-3 11th hole and the par-5 12th, downhill all the way, with a serpentine and undulated fairway, and a green, reachable on your second shot, you will enjoy two dogleg right par-4 holes, the 13th, with quite a few bunkers around the narrow green, and the scenic 14th, where you will be looking at a big lake, far away, before hitting your downhill tee shot.
The last four holes will keep you on your toes, as you will find out with the straight and downhill par-5 15th, where you will have to avoid a few big trees in the middle of the fairway, midway, before walking over to the pretty par-3 16th, with its tee shot over a lake (in front and near the green, on the right), and finishing with two dogleg left par-4 holes, the 17th, with a blind tee shot over another lake, midway, and the 18th, with a tee shot landing short of a wide bunker in front of a lake (on the right), and a final approach revealing the nice clubhouse, behind and below the green.
If this par 72 looks nice, it is not as easy as it may seem, at first glance, as you will have to avoid plenty of deep rough around the undulated and/or narrow fairways before facing a few testing putts on a couple of greens with gentle slopes. But, at least, you won’t have to face kang(a)roos on this well-designed KaangRoo City Park GC, thanks to rlslay !
