A nicely-designed course, surrounded by rolling wooded hills, with some rollercoaster fairways, a few lakes and ponds, and plenty of elevated and undulated greens that will test your putting skills. On the front 9, my favorite holes are the short par-4 2nd, with a blind approach toward a steeply-elevated green, slightly to the left (and with a small lake to watch for below), the nice par-3 3rd, with a tee shot over part of a lake hugging the fairway all along and ending past the elevated green (on the left), and the very long dogleg right par-5 4th, along a railroad track (on the right), with an elevated green, reachable only on your third shot (if you are not disturbed by the noise of the freight train... even when you are putting !). I also like the dogleg right par-4 9th hole, uphill all the way, along trees (on the right), and with a nice clubhouse and big parking lot behind the green. The back 9 is more challenging, as you will find out with the dogleg left par-4 11th hole, with a blind and downhill tee shot and an uphill approach to the green, the par-3 12th, with its elevated green, set next to an elongated lake (on the far right), and the long dogleg right par-5 14th, with a rollercoaster tree-lined fairway and a blind second shot toward a downhill green. But the best is for last : the par-3 16th hole is pretty with its green, surrounded halfway by a small lake (on the left and behind), just like the par-4 17th, with a tee shot flying between two small lakes and landing between four small bunkers and an uphill approach to its elevated green, and the scenic dogleg right par-5 18th, with another rollercoaster fairway, along a lake (on the right), and a downhill approach toward the green for a potential eagle as a reward. Overall, with its small elevation changes, water hazards and undulated greens, this par 72 is quite enjoyable and if you can manage to score well on the par-5 holes and hit a few more putts, you should enjoy your round at this Vanderbilt Legends Club North course, set in Tennessee, thanks, once again, to MSR Golf !
