A well-designed course, set next to a large road, and pretty to look at with nice trees and a beautiful clubhouse, and with slight elevation changes, a few serpentine creeks and a couple of big lakes, but not overly difficult with its wide fairways and relatively smooth greens. Right off the... bat (after all, it's the Texas Rangers Golf Club !), after the dogleg left par-5 opening hole, with its big bunker in the middle of the fairway, midway, and its very long second shot if you want to try to reach its green, my favorite holes are the dogleg left par-4 4th, slightly-uphill all the way, with a tee shot over a small creek, and a big lake, midway (on the left), and the straight par-4 5th, back the other way, with a tee shot over that lake again, and an uphill approach to an elevated green. I also like the dogleg right par-5 9th hole, quite pretty with a tee shot flying along trees (on the right) and with a creek flowing across the fairway, and branching off not too far in front of the elevated green (and ending to its left), hard to reach even with a very long second shot. The back 9 has a few nice holes too, starting with the scenic and short dogleg left par-4 10th (back the other way from the 9th), with a downhill tee shot over that winding creek, and a short approach to an elevated green, and continuing later on with the straight par-5 13th, with a blind and uphill tee shot landing down, not too far from a big lake (on the left) and with another elevated green. Last, but not least, after the straight par-4 16th hole, with its green potentially reachable from the tee box (as it is only about 325 yards away), the straight par-5 18th will offer you a nice view along trees and the road (on the left), before hitting your final approach to the green, near the clubhouse (and next to that serpentine creek, to the right). Overall, if this par 72 is not the most challenging course you will ever face, with quite a few straight holes, it runs very smoothly and, unless you use your baseball bat to threaten to beat up your caddie for giving you the wrong information about distances to the flags, you should finish with a low scorecard on this pleasant and stress-free real course created by MSR Golf !
