A real course and a nice one, indeed, not too difficult but pretty to look at, and with a few challenging holes, with undulating fairways (some of them, narrow), slight elevation changes, and trees, sometimes in your way, along with small water hazards to watch for. If the panorama looks good, seeing your tee shot fly between power lines on the dogleg par-3 1st hole might startle you, unlike on the more “familiar” dogleg left par-4 2nd, with its uphill approach, and the straight par-5 3rd, with a downhill tee shot over deep rough landing onto a narrow fairway. Then, after the par-4 4th hole, and its tiny ponds on both sides (in front of the tee box), a pretty hole awaits you on the dogleg right par-5 6th, with a creek across in front of the tee box, over which your tee shot will fly through a narrow gap between the tree-lined fairway (leaving you with a long second shot to reach the green), before walking over to the straight par-4 7th, downhill all the way, with a blind tee shot over heather. Another hole, worth mentioning, is the dogleg right par-4 8th, with a big elongated pond (in front of the tee box) and its elevated green. The back 9 starts with the dogleg right par-4 10th hole, with a tee shot over deep rough and with a couple of trees, midway in the inner corner, and continues with the straight par-4 11th, slightly uphill all the way (again with a narrow fairway), and the dogleg left par-4 12th, with an uphill tee shot and a blind and downhill second shot toward the green. The par-3 13th hole is quite scenic, with a blind tee shot flying above a serpentine cart path downward to the green and is followed by three dogleg holes (right par-4 14th, left par-4 15th – and its sloped green, and the short right par-4 16th, with a blind and downhill tee shot over small trees and three small bunkers in front of the green). Finally, after the dogleg left par-5 17th hole, uphill all the way and with an undulating fairway, you will complete your round with the wide open and pretty par-4 18th, with a downhill tee shot before admiring a nice clubhouse and parking lot, behind the green. With its small and colorful hills, this par 72, well-designed as usual by Micko, is fun to play and you should finish with a nice scorecard, proving, once again, that... all is well in Hollinwell !
