As Bruce Ryder mentioned in his comments, this par 72 is not a piece of cake, with plenty of water hazards, strategically-placed bunkers and trees, and quite a few tricky greens.
Right off the bat, the opening par-4 hole sets the tone for what you will face, with an undulated fairway and trees hiding the view of the far away green (reachable after a blind second shot), just like the even tougher dogleg left par-4 2nd, with an elongated sand trap, midway (along a lake, on the right), making the fairway quite narrow, leaving you with another blind approach toward the green.
Then, after the pretty par-3 3rd hole, and its tee shot over a clover-shaped lake, you will move on to the par-5 4th, quite difficult with a narrow tree-lined fairway, winding its way to the right, midway, then to the left toward the green, guarded by a big bunker in front.
The next few holes are not easy ones either, starting with the dogleg right par-4 5th, with a bunker, midway (on the outer corner), and trees, in the inner side, making the fairway narrow and your club selection quite tricky if you want to reach the green (with trees hiding it), and continuing with the nice ar-3 6th, with a tee shot over a serpentine lake, and the dogleg right par-4 7th, with a tough tee shot flying over a lake and landing between trees (on the left) and a big bunker, midway (on the right), and an elevated green to aim for.
You will then face one of the toughest holes on this course with the dogleg right par-5 8th, hard to figure out, with a tee shot over the water landing onto a narrow fairway, with trees on the edge of a lake (on the right) and a small elongated bunker (on the left, midway), before finishing with the short, but not easy, par-4 9th, with a small mound on the green, near the cup, reachable from the tee with a blind shot over the lake, midway.
More challenges await you on the back 9, starting with the pretty par-3 10th hole, with a blind tee shot to get to the green, hidden by trees, followed by the par-4 11th, and its tricky green (again, with mounds around the cup), and the short dogleg par-5 12th, bending sharply to the left, with its fairway hugging a lake, and with a blind second shot toward the green, with a couple of more trees in the way...
After the dogleg right par-4 13th hole and the very narrow par-4 14th, with trees on both sides (and a second shot over a lake across toward the green, partially hidden by trees), two tough doglegs await you : the par-5 15th hole bends sharply to the left around a lake and has a downhill green, hard to reach with more trees in the way (on the left), whereas the par-4 16th is also pretty, along a lake (on the left) and with a narrow undulated fairway.
Last, but not least, after the wide open and bare dogleg right par-4 17th hole, along a lake (on the left) and a green, again hidden by a few trees, the long par-3 18th will offer you one last challenge with its undulated green and small pot bunker in front to watch for !
With its nice mountain panorama, this Mountain Waters Golf Club is pretty to look at but it can easily turn into a nightmare if you don’t plan your shots carefully as plenty of obstacles stand in your way, be it water hazards, bunkers and/or trees, not to mention its greens, hard to read with its slopes and/or undulations. And with its long par-3 holes and short, but very tricky par-5s, you will have plenty of tough decisions to make if you want to finish with a decent scorecard...
