As expected, any course designed by Jack Nicklaus deserves to be played and this CGX PGA West Nicklaus Private 2015 is no exception : with its beautiful mountains to gaze at and its nice villas, along many holes, this par 72 is very enjoyable and quite challenging too, with plenty of water hazards to watch for. After the left dogleg par-4 1st hole, water comes into play on the very pretty dogleg par-4 2nd, with a fairway hugging a big hilltop (on the left) and villas (on the right), and a second shot flying above a small meandering river crossing the fairway, in front of the green, slightly to the right (with a big rock in front to avoid, along with a bunker, on the right). The par-3 3rd hole, back the other way, is gorgeous and very risky with a downhill green set next to the hill (on the right) and the river (on the left), and is followed by the nice dogleg right par-5 4th, with a downhill tee shot above a winding river and a tough uphill approach over trees hiding the green... Another superb hole is the par-4 6th, with a tee shot over a wide lake and a nice approach along the lake (on the left) getting narrower as you reach the green. Then, after the par-3 7th, downhill and with a U-shaped bunker in front (and to the left) of the green, you will face the dogleg right par-5 8th, with villas (on the left) and an elongated lake, starting midway (on the right) ending in front of the green, before finishing with the wide open par-4 9th, with a big lake (on the left), bordered by bunkers, and ending next to the green (slightly to the left). The back 9 is less challenging but it has some nice holes too, such as the pretty par-5 13th, with a tee shot landing near bunkers (on the right) and an elongated lake, starting midway (on the left), and with a tough approach over it to reach the small green, and the scenic par-4 14th, with a tee shot over a lake and a second shot over its narrowest part, crossing the fairway in front of the green. Last, but not least, after a couple of dogleg holes (the par-4 15th, going left, and the par-5 16th, bending to the right, with a tee shot flying above the edge of an elongated lake, landing near a sandy area (on the left) and a long second shot toward the green, with bunkers to watch for (on the right), you will complete your round with the nice dogleg left par-4 18th, with a big lake, midway (on the right), and an elevated green, next to it (on the left). Very pretty to look at and well-designed, this PGA West Nicklaus Private 2015 is one of the CGX team’s best courses, and its slight elevation changes will make you think twice before hitting some of your shots...
