Another very nice course, with beautiful high mountains as a panorama, and not easy with plenty of undulated and narrow fairways, well-placed bunkers and a few water hazards, not to mention some greens, hard to read...
After the opening par-4 hole, with an elevated tee shot landing onto the fairway, set on a plateau, and a green, slightly to the right, you will move on to the pretty par-3 2nd to admire its open and downhill panoramic view of the valley as you reach the green, before heading for the dogleg left par-4 3rd, with a downhill tee shot landing between four bunkers (two on each side), midway, followed by an approach toward a slightly-elevated green.
Water, then, comes into play on the dogleg right par-4 4th hole, downhill all the way, with a couple of bunkers in the inner corner and a small pond across in front of the green, before facing later on the dogleg right par-4 6th, with bushes and small trees near the tee box (on the right side, and more starting midway), over which you will have to hit your blind approach to reach its downhill green.
The 7th hole is a par-5, with a tough tee shot landing down onto a very narrow fairway (with a small elongated pond filled with reeds, on the right, and a big bunker on the opposite side), and a long second shot upward to the green (slightly to the left), and is followed by another par-5, the dogleg right 8th, with a downhill tee shot landing onto an undulated fairway, and a long and blind approach over trees in the corner hiding an elevated green.
You will finish with the scenic downhill par-3 9th hole, with a tee shot flying over an elongated pond (filled with rough and reeds) diagonally in front of the green, offering you another nice panoramic view.
The back 9 starts with the nice dogleg left par-10th hole, with a wide lake (on the right) ending midway, and a slightly-downhill green, and continues a little bit further by two more beautiful holes, the par-3 12th, with a lake on the left side of the tee box running across and ending in front past the green (with a small rocky outcrop and flowers, halfway around), and the par-4 14th, with a blind and downhill tee shot landing short of a crescent-shaped lake, surrounding the green halfway (on the right)...
Then, after the dogleg left par-4 15th hole, uphill all the way, and with trees (on the left) hiding the view of the green, guarded by a deep bunker in front, you will move on to the tough and pretty par-5 16th, with a steeply-downhill tee shot landing onto an undulated fairway (framed by four bunkers, midway), leaving you with a very risky and long second shot if you want to try to reach the green, with another crescent-shaped lake (filled with tall grass and reeds) on its left side.
Finally, after the par-3 17th hole, with a blind and downhill tee shot over tall bushes, midway across, landing onto a green (framed by a bunker in front and one in the back), you will complete your round with the pretty dogleg right par-4 18th, with a wide lake, midway (on the right), and a nice approach toward the green, with a beautiful view of the clubhouse and houses on a hilltop as a bonus.
Well-designed as usual by Micko, this par 72 is not only eye-pleasing, it is also quite challenging, especially with those narrow fairways and par-5 holes. But, of course, I could have listed a few more reasons why you should enjoy this Dragon's Drift, but I'm sure you get... my drift !
