A beautiful rendition of this real (par 72) course, from the 1st tee to the 18th green, with a gorgeous mountain panorama, nice desert vegetation (deep rough, shrubs, and... huge cacti) and homes, but not too difficult, despite quite a few elevation changes, with very short par-5 holes, where you will have eagle opportunities on all of them. My favorite holes on the front 9 are the pretty right dogleg par-5 2nd, downhill all the way, with a tee shot over deep rough and shrubs, landing near some nice villas along the fairway (on the left), and a blind approach to the green (easily reachable on your second shot), the very scenic par-3 3rd, with an uphill tee shot over a small canyon (filled with more tall grass and small bushes) and a green, with a bunker on both sides, and the straight but spectacular par-4 4th, with a blind tee shot over plenty of shrubs landing near trees on the left of the fairway, getting narrower as you reach the undulated green... After getting another eagle opportunity on the beautiful left dogleg par-5 5th hole, downhill all the way (and with an undulated fairway next to a road, on the left), you will move later on to the scenic right dogleg par-4 7th, with a steeply-downhill and blind tee shot landing onto a slanted fairway and a steeply-elevated green, and the very pretty par-3 8th, with deep rough, big bushes and a wide bunker between the tee box and its slightly-downhill green. Even though I prefer the front 9, there are some nice holes too on your way home, such as the short par-4 11th, with eight small bunkers, splitting the fairway, not too far from the green (slightly to the right), and the left dogleg par-4 15th, with big rough splitting the slanted fairway, two-thirds of the way, and a second shot over it (with a nice panoramic view of the desert). Then, after one last eagle opportunity on the right dogleg par-5 16th hole, with a slightly-downhill tee shot landing onto a fairway (lined up with plenty of bushes, a few small trees and cacti), and an uphill approach toward the elevated green, you will finish with another right dogleg, the par-18th where, after hitting a blind tee shot over more deep rough and big bushes, you will need another blind (and uphill) approach over more rough, shrubs and trees, to reach its hidden elevated green. With its shallow canyons and nice attention to details (roads, tee markers, etc…), this La Paloma Country Club Canyon Hill course is a pure delight to watch and play, thanks to MSR Golf, even though I did not see any palomas flying by...
