This par 72 is another beauty, designed by Micko, with a nice “homemade” small mountainous panorama to gaze at, and is quite challenging, with plenty of scenic doglegs and a few water hazards to deal with. After two nice right dogleg holes to start with (par-4 1st and par-5 2nd), and the par-3 3rd hole, with its green, set on a small plateau, you will face two of my favorite holes, the par-4 4th, a left dogleg with a tee shot through a narrow gap followed by a very scenic approach to the green (with a small pond in front and a winding lake behind), and the par-3 5th, where you will need to hit your tee shot over an elongated lake, diagonally in front of the green (with nice flowers behind). I also like the last three right dogleg holes : the 7th is a par-4, with an elongated serpentine lake in front (and past) the green, the par-5 8th has a creek crossing the fairway midway and a slightly-uphill green, and the par-4 9th has a gorgeous scenery around the green, with a wide lake, beautiful white houses, a big clubhouse, a parking lot, tennis courts, a practice range and a... pro shop nearby ! The back 9 has some nice holes too, starting with the par-5 10th, a right dogleg with a tee shot through a narrow gap between trees landing near a winding creek crossing the fairway (midway), and a green, set next to a wide lake on the right, and continuing with the par-4 13th hole, straightforward but very picturesque with water on the left side, halfway and past the green, and the par-3 14th, with a small pond in front of its elevated green. Then, after the pretty and wide open right dogleg par-5 16th where, after hitting a downhill tee shot, you will have to be careful with your approach to avoid a little creek in front of the green or the wide lake (to the right and behind), you will finish with the straightforward par-4 18th hole, and its spectacular approach (just like on the 9th hole), with a wide lake on the left of the fairway, halfway, ending past the green on the left. If you add nice plantings and textures used on the fairways and greens, you will enjoy this Haywood Vale course, the 7th in the Haywood series, set again in England, unlike a couple of others, located in Wales, North America and South Africa.
