A beautiful course and one of Bobby Bolin’s best with a nice small mountainous panorama and where you will have to be patient and careful with your approach shots, as a few water hazards and some well-placed bunkers stand in the way. On the front 9, I like the par-4 2nd hole, where a serpentine and narrow bunker splits the fairway lengthwise in the middle, offering you the choice of landing your tee shot, either left or right, and the par-4 3rd, with its downhill tee shot and plenty of water left and behind the green. But my favorite is the aptly named and very scenic par-3 “Potter” hole, where you might need all of Harry’s magic touch to hit your tee shot over the wide lake in order to land it onto the narrow green, with nice bushes on a small hilltop behind ! More bushes await you on the right side of the fairway on the pretty par-4 5th hole, before moving on to the par-4 6th, nice too with a narrow bunker and a little bit of water all along the right side of the fairway and where you will have to hit a blind second shot to reach the green, with a lake behind. Another favorite hole of mine is the pretty right dogleg par-4 7th, quite short (a little over 300 yards) but risky as the green is hard to reach if you want to hit your tee shot over the lake, and the gorgeous par-3 8th, with a tee shot over plenty of bushes and an uphill green, surrounded by four bunkers. You will finish with the par-4 9th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow fairway and an uphill approach to the green, slightly to the right, under the watchful eyes of plenty of fans. The back 9 has some very nice holes too, such as the left dogleg par-4 11th, along a small hilltop on the left, with a downhill tee shot and with wide bunkers near the green, and the par-5 12th where you will need to hit a long approach over an elongated and narrow bunker (looking more like a dry riverbed), crossing the fairway near the green. Then, after facing the very long par-3 13th hole, with plenty of bushes along the fairway, you will move on to the par-4 14th, a little bit similar to the 12th, with an approach over the riverbed crossing the fairway in front of the green, with a little bit of water on the right. The next three-hole stretch will definitely test you, starting with the par-3 15th, superb with its tee shot over plenty of bushes and its slightly-uphill green (with four bunkers behind), then continuing with the right dogleg par-4 16th, with more bushes below the fairway (on the right) and a second shot over them toward the green (with a lake on the far right), and the par-5 17th, with a tricky tee shot over some bushes, planted across the fairway, midway, and a long second shot toward the slightly-uphill green, guarded by three bunkers in front (on the right). And just like on the 9th hole, you will be greeted by plenty of fans in an amphitheater atmosphere as you reach the green of the down-and-up par-4 18th, with your last approach toward the nice clubhouse. Very well designed, challenging, and quite pretty, this par 70 is a definite keeper and another great course to add to my Bobby Bolin's collection !

The thing I like about Bobby Bolin's courses is the fantasy courses are "real" in the sense that they feel and play like real courses. Rose Canyon is a great course, allows you to take chances to drive - or almost drive - some of the par 4 greens; the course bounces are fair, the hole locations have risk-reward as they should. There is a bridge on 16 for the golfers to walk over a gully, I tried to get my drive there so I could punch a shot over the bridge, but couldn't make it...I'll try again! Thanks, Bobby!
