Another pretty and challenging course from Neil Munro, with doglegs, winding and/or narrow fairways, plenty of water to deal with, not to mention a few blind shots over trees if you want to reach the greens. The right dogleg par-5 1st hole sets the tone for what you will be facing, with a tee shot over a very wide loch (lake) and a risky second shot over trees and water again if you want to push your luck and try to land onto the green. After the similar but easier right dogleg par-4 2nd hole, two par-4s follow : the 3rd hole is straight but it has a narrow fairway hugging the lake all along on the right and requires a tough second shot to reach the green, just like the left dogleg 4th and its winding fairway, making your approach over the water quite tricky too. If the right dogleg par-4 5th hole is quite short (around 320 yards), you can’t reach its green as a big tree and water stand in the way : as a result, you will be better off by hitting your tee shot safely to the left onto the fairway, before firing your second shot over the tiny creek in front of the green. The par-5 6th hole is quite tough too, with its fairway winding its way along the lake on the right, unlike the easier par-4 7th, more straightforward... The par-3 8th hole is very pretty but not easy with a tee shot over the lake landing onto a narrow and undulating peninsula green. As for the par-5 9th, you will have to avoid its wide bunker, midway on the left of the winding fairway, before aiming a tough and long approach toward the green. Coming back, you will start with the right dogleg par-4 10th hole, without having to worry too much about the lake (behind the green), followed by another right dogleg, the pretty par-4 11th, where your tee shot will fly over a few trees on a small hill (and, hopefully, falling short of the lake further behind) if you want to have a clearer view of the green, to the left of the wide lake. The par-3 12th hole is quite picturesque with a tee shot over some deep rough and a few bushes landing onto an elongated green, but beware of a couple of bunkers in front (and to the left), and is followed by the right dogleg par-4 13th (similar to the 11th, but without the small rocky hills on the right side), with a bunker to avoid, midway in the right corner, and its green, set next to the lake on the left. Then, after the straight par-4 14th hole, and its fairway hugging the lake on the right, you will move on to the par-3 15th, quite pretty with a slightly-downhill tee shot through a narrow path between trees to reach the green, before heading for the par-5 left dogleg 16th, quite tricky despite its wide fairway, with trees lined up on the left (next to the lake) and over which you will have to hit your blind second shot if you want to reach the narrow green, guarded by three small bunkers. Finally, after the par-3 17th hole and its elevated green set on a small plateau, you will move on to the par-4 18th, with a downhill tee shot and an uphill approach to the green, while admiring a nice panoramic view of the loch (and the war memorial behind) and the clubhouse on the left. Once again, Neil Munro designed another great course where you will have to be patient and think twice before hitting some shots if you want to finish with a nice scorecard...
