This par 72, designed by Micko, is a nice links course, maybe not as scenic as some of his other Haywood ones but, with plenty of narrow (and, at times, undulating) fairways, well-placed pot bunkers, slight elevation changes and a few challenging approaches to the greens, you will definitely enjoy it. On the front 9, I like the pretty par-3 2nd hole, with a blind tee shot over some bushes downward to the sloped green, surrounded by 8 (!) small pot bunkers, and the par-4 3rd, slightly uphill, with a narrow fairway parallel to the railroad track on the right. The left dogleg par-5 5th hole is nice too and quite long (more than 620 yards), but you might be able to reach its downhill green, if you are lucky, which will give you enough time to gaze at the scenic view of the seashore (on the right) and the... power plants, on the far left. After the par-4 6th hole, you will face the par-5 7th, downhill with a fairway split by deep rough and gorse bushes, halfway, leaving you with a very long and blind second shot toward the green (slightly to the right), before moving on to the scenic par-3 8th, with a tee shot over a wide shallow ditch, filled with bushes, and a nice panoramic view of the ocean (with an old castle beyond the green, on the left)... As for the right dogleg par-4 9th hole, along the seashore, it is pretty too with a nice clubhouse on the left, near the green. Coming back, you will start with the left dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a few mounds on the left of the narrow fairway, an elongated lake on the right (at the bottom of a small hilltop), and an elevated green, before facing one of my favorite holes, the picturesque par-3 11th, with its heart-shaped green, next to a wide lake on the left. You will then head for the pretty right dogleg par-5 12th hole, with a tee shot over a wide lake, landing near some bushes on the left side, before hitting your approach over more water to the slightly-elevated green, partially hidden by bushes in front (with a nice parking lot and the clubhouse, on the left), and follow with another right dogleg, the par-4 13th with, again, a tee shot over the lake (with five bunkers on the left, midway) and a second shot uphill to the green. Then, after the par-4 14th hole, downhill all the way to the green (with a fairway next to a nice road on the left), and the left dogleg par-4 15th, with a blind tee shot and a nice approach to the green (with sand, deep rough and the ocean behind), you will face the pretty par-3 16th hole, with a blind tee shot over plenty of deep rough. The last two holes are quite challenging with the straight par-4 17th, slightly uphill all the way, with a narrow fairway hugging water all along on the left, and the long par-5 18th, back the other way, with a tee shot over water again, and a second and third shots, slightly-uphill to the green, set next to the clubhouse on the right. Well-designed as usual by Micko, this course is the fifth in his Haywood series after Haywood Park, Haywood Heights Golf Resort, Haywood Hills and Haywood’s Canyon, proving, one more time, that he is one of the best designers around !
