Even though this course is designed to be played in expert mode, you can enjoy it in any other mode too, as this par 72 has all you need in terms of shots to, hopefully, make you become a better player. Doglegs, rollercoaster fairways, long par-5 holes, blind shots, steep elevation changes, a few trees in the way, well-placed water hazards, undulated greens (some with slopes on the sides) and wide or deep bunkers are on the agenda of this well-designed CGX course requiring only... 4 libraries ! The long left dogleg par-5 1st hole will test you right away, with its undulated fairway, and a big pond to watch for in front of the green (along with a small bunker too, on the left), just like the nice par-3 2nd, with a steeply-downhill tee shot and a huge and deep bunker below its green. Then, after the long right dogleg par-5 3rd hole, and its small pond, on the far right of a downhill green (impossible to reach on your second shot), and the right dogleg par-4 4th, with a downhill tee shot and uphill approach to a steeply-elevated green, you will move later on to the long par-3 6th hole, very pretty with its peninsula green set way above a small lake. But the best has yet to come, with the beautiful but very tricky par-5 9th hole, with its undulated fairway (twisting to the left, then to the right), split in the middle by a serpentine lake (with a couple of tiny islands in the middle), over which you will have to hit your second shot to get close to a downhill green (partially hidden by tall trees, on the right), with another meandering small lake behind, in front of a gorgeous and big mansion. More challenging holes await you on the back 9 with the par-4 11th, uphill all the way and with steep banks around its elevated green, and the left dogleg par-4 12th, with an uphill tee shot landing down onto an undulated fairway and a tough and blind approach to the green (quite narrow at its entrance with trees on both sides). If the left dogleg par-4 13th hole is tough too, with its undulated and sloped fairway along a small river (on the left) and a blind second shot downward to the green (hidden by trees), the par-3 15th is simply beautiful, with its peninsula green in the middle of a lake with steep banks all around. As for the last three holes, they will test your skills in many ways, starting with the left dogleg par-4 16th, with a narrow fairway and a blind and long second shot over trees toward the wide green (set above a deep lake, on the left), the very long par-3 17th, with an uphill tee shot over deep rough and shrubs, and the pretty left dogleg par-5 18th, very similar to the 9th hole, except that the peninsula green is on the left side, in the middle of that small twisted lake, again in front of that mansion and its... owner (?), standing on the doorstep ! In the end, no matter what mode you will end up playing, this CGX Sussex Expert Practice Golf Club is a beautiful course to play and to... keep because, after all, practice make perfect !
