That's why I'm kind of disappointed from TGC so far. An 7 years old game engine just whacks a self-proclaimed NextGen golf game with ease when it comes to gameplay and visuals. Sure, without SweetFX TW08 looks dated, but still delivers great gameplay. With SweetFX TW08 delivers pretty nice visuals and great gameplay, where TGC only delivers average.
TGC is okay, but as I mentioned, it's far from being the NextGen Golf Game that most of us expected. |

I bought the early release and I have to say that the course designer is not as good as the Course Architect for TW2008, nor is the game play as good as TW2008 or Links 2003 IMO. The good point about TGC is that anyone can 'create' a course. I could not see a way of using a real course image to create a course, so how are the real courses being created? Maybe I missed something. |

Good idea, this is the first I've heard of sweetFX.
Huge difference in the pics from TGC real courses and the CGX version of Castle Stuart.
Custom Pano, custom clubhouse and objects make a huge difference. I don't know if this is possible on TGC, but I don't think it is yet, but just going by the general look of a well made course the TGC courses I've seen look poor in comparison to their TW06/08 equivalent. Its disappointing as I had high hopes for this. I hope Perfect Parallel can come up with something better, but that seems to be a fair way away. |

You can get a Tutorial for Sweet FX on you tube but lets wait to see what Jo says as the Tutorial mentions a file for Radeon cards that will work with Nvidia cards and another file has to be installed.
Going back to the subject TGC This game requires a PC with a big card and a lot of Ram. |

Sure I can post more details about SweetFX + TW08 in the next days. There's just some problem with 3-Click that messes up the visuals - noticed a while ago. An additional thing you can do to improve the visual quality of TW08 is the downsampling method.
I'm running TW08 on 2560x1440 resolution on my 1080p monitor. It's only recommended to use this method if you know what you are doing, because it can damage your hardware.
The Golf Club. The game is based on Unity Engine and the engine can provide pretty nice landscape and terrain visuals. The game isn't optimised yet, so I think the visuals will get better in the future.

Im old school, still like to have a DVD to play from. Also HATE Steam and any of the other downloadable content set ups. There have been a few other games (;FPS) that I would have bought but you need to have internet connection for Steam or one of the other downloadable set ups. So have not bought those games. Most games now are designed for consoles then ported for PC. Lot of the quality is lost when this is done as well as playablity. Anywho just my thought. Would though like to know more about the SweetFX thing. Also what is the...downsampling method ????

Still in early release and not yet optimized for PC, But let the judging begin early.
The Game play is harder that TW08 so that`s a little scary for some people, maybe we will see some of you over there some years in the future who knows. |

I just bought it for Xbox One.. For the first few minutes of playing around with the course creator, I actually found it pretty fun. The library selection isn't all that big, but imagine they'll add to it. Game play I can't say too much since I only played one hole lol..
Yes, I realize this site is more for the PC golfers, thought I'd chime my two cents..:)
Peace. |

It's been quite a while since I visited this site...so first off, hello to all of my old friends.
I've been playing around with TGC for about the last month and have enjoyed it. While it does have its flaws, the opportunity as a community to work closely with the developers to help shape the direction of the game has been quite appealing. HB Studios does an excellent job of participating with the community and listening to their suggestions. Hopefully, Perfect Parallels will offer the same type of relationship and the PC Golf Community will have something it hasn't had for a long time.
TGC at this point is in its infancy. I expect it to grow into something much more than it is today. That said, what it currently offers is a pretty good golf sim and a custom course creator that has a very quick learning curve creating a low barrier of entry. It doesn't offer the ability to create with the precision of the CA and some things are not as easy as they are in the CA. But you can create some pretty amazing courses without having to worry about the highly technical. It allows you to create while focusing on course design, not technical details. There is a lot planned for the course designer and I expect it will get better. But if you're used to the CA, I think you will disappointed by some of the limitations, but also delighted as some of the possibilities.
At the end of the day, everyone is on the same playing field so creating a great golf course for TGC is less about who can technically manipulate the CA, and more about creating excellent golf holes and creativity with the tools at hand. That makes for a different type of challenge as a designer.
I like the ability to create courses and play them on both PC and Xbox1. Creating a course and playing it with my two boys is quite fun.
For me the game is worth the cost of admission. If you decide to give a try, look me up on Steam. Also, check out my published course Symphony Manor Golf Club (http://www.smilinggoats.com/symphony-manor-golf-club). More on the way! |

Nice course SmilingGoats.
My opinion about TGC changed a bit since the latest patch. The sloppy shot control is gone, the high GPU usage is gone and I figured out how to use SweetFX with TGC - custom SweetFX shader is in the works.
The sky box does not look good, also the shading/lightning needs some attention. I think they will address those issues when the performance problems are sorted out. |

Do you mean in the game or in my photos? My photos are blurred on purpose...depth of field effect. The screenshot camera gives you all kinds of options for camera settings, so that may be what you are seeing.
If you mean in the game, I honestly hadn't notices but will check it out. I do think the new links theme sky is a little strange looking...like the clouds stop in a straight line above the horizon. |

I am having a lot of fun playing The Golf Club, and so are my friends on Steam.
It is great to see another Golf game that is available for PC players, its has been way too long of a wait.
I have heard that EA games is going to release another golf game sometime next year using the frostbite 3 engine designed for Battlefield 4, This could turn out to be a very good game as well, and I will probably try that as well, but since I have had issues with EA games in the past, cancelling TW08 after only 2 years, The Tiger woods online game was also cancelled after 2 years leaving players who payed into it out in the cold, Im just not sure how much trust they deserve from me anymore. There is also the fact that if their new game is using the frostbite 3 engine, your PC will have to be able to Run BF4 with the settings at least at medium and this might be too much for the average Joe PC golfer, but its in the future still so we will see what happens.
